Counties of Uppland and Sodermanland playable as the family af Munso.

I think it would be better if you renamed it as Yngling if it's for the start date, the House of Munsö is a branch of the Yngling clan that starts with the descendants of Björn Ironside. The name Af Munsö is probably a much later invention anyway, it's my understanding that it was made up in the 19th century when antiquarians found a mound on the island of Munsö which they considered to be what was left of the castle of Björn ironside and that that's where the name comes from, before that there was no differentiation between the Ynglings aka the old dynasty and the house of Munsö afaik.

Oh what would be really cool would be if you could have a CB that makes you able to get gold when you take over a province. When you play as a Viking of course.

Oh and for "Norway" ( Yes I know it didn't really exist yet ) Basically there were just a bunch of chieftains, some of them proclaimed to be kings and so forth. So maybe make each province in norway have it's own ruler. The family trees that exist in CK2 atm seem pretty much accurate as they're basically town names.

If you need help with that I can provide names for each province that date back to the viking age.

Oh well i have some things, you should add or better have to add, a "Frisia", frisia was "divided" under karl the great, but if we play 843, there should be a option to "Form" the Kingdom of Frisia.

Also its important to know, that the frisian´s were "Half autonom", they didn´t obey to a duke, only to the emperor, so they were direct vasalls to the emperor (even there was no duchy.). They were still organized in tribes. The Frisians (in that time), were a lot of small autonom provinces, whish de jure served the emperor and de facto.. just were there (while no one recognized them)... they were in the Empire, and on the other hand, they didnt really ... recognized it. Its also known as the "Frisian Freedom". There´s a myth that the Frisian fought sooo brave for a emperor, that the emperor granted them freedom (until the 14 century there were no feudal structures in frisia!)

Cheers

Can we please have the eastern world re-done for the timer period as well? Especially Khazars.

Name: Khazar Khaganate or Ard al-Khazar or Khazria

Culture name: Khazar

Graphical Culture: Turkish

Male and Female names: Old testament and/or Tanakh names (copy paste from the list of papal names, just remove the apostles and other New Testament figures) also add in a few Turkish Muslim and Turkish Pagan names.

Geographic location and change over time: A nice map for the relevant time period
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/Chasaren.jpg
This particular map is on the conservative side, and doesn’t account for (much) of the sphere of influence/subject peoples etc.
If anyone has a nice labeled CK2 map I could give (fairly) accurate data on growth/shrinkage (to the point that it is relevant to the game). For example where the major castles are, where the capital is etc.

Religion: Jewish

Ruling family and counts will be Jewish. Barons and courtiers 2/5 Jewish, 1/5 Christian, 1/5 Muslim, 1/5 Pagan.

(Judaism in a nutshell)
Does not get Crusade CB’s
Can not be the target of Crusade CB’s
Does not get and can not be targeted by all/any religious based CB’s by Muslims and Christians. Pagans may target Jews, but Jews may not target pagans.
No excommunication
Divorce allowed
Templars/Teutonic Knights etc. CAN/WILL fight Jews as if they were Muslim/pagan.
Any Pagan or Muslim holy order CAN/WILL fight Jews as if they were Christian.

Note that the above is written specifically with the Khazars in mind (as far as I know, there were no other Jewish states at the time). Western crusaders were more then happy to target Jews before, during and after campaigns, but the situation for the Khazars was different. The reason the Khazars converted to Judaism is because they wanted to be relevant in an increasingly Abrahamic world without making themselves a clear subordinate and/or enemy powerful Christian and Muslim states. Because the Khazars went out of their way to avoid being an obvious target, they can’t be targeted by Jihad or Crusades, nor can they benefit from them. However, holy warriors will still fight them, since they are of a different faith.

A quicker/dirtier (if much less accurate) possibility would be to simply insert Judaism as a Muslim sect.

Ruler-Title: Bek (Rough equivalent to a “six-star general”, has power over everyone/everything else with few exceptions. Although the Khan was technically head of state, when period sources mention the “leader of the Khazars” they tend to mean the Bek.)

Dynasty: Bulanid

(Note that because records are spotty all of the following dates of birth/death are logical guesses. The rulers relation to each other is also debatable, for the purposes of CK i’ve assumed that they are all father/sons if the relation is in doubt)

Bulan
Born 750
Reigns 770 to 790
Dies 790

Obadiah (son of Bulan)
Born 770
Reigns 790 to 810
Dies 810

Hezekiah (son of Obadiah)
Born 790
Reigns 810 to 840
Dies 840

Manasseh (son of Hezekiah)
Born 820
Reigns 840 to 845

Hanukkah (son of Obadiah, uncle of Hezekiah) [Bek at the start of the mod]
Born 820
Reigns 840-

Isaac (son of Hannukkah) [First in line to the throne at the start of the mod]
Born 840

I just implemented the majority of this, some I could not do obviously. I did the family line, created the new religion, create the new ruler title and created the new dynasty. Ill post screens in a moment.

Khazaria.jpg

I also added the Duchy of Abkhazia as playable.

If you have the names for all the dynasties that ruled and where they ruled that would be very helpful! That would save me time.

Well there were no dynasties. At least from what I've read of "norwegian" vikings of that time. There were claims that X person came from Z person and thus had the rights of Z person. But really what they used was their father's name. CK2 has actually done a alright job with most of the norwegians and their dynasties as they are villages where they came from. Best way to do it really.

But I'll include names for each province.
Agder - Av Iveland
Agder - Av Hylestad
Rogaland - Av Sola
Rogaland - Av Stavanger
Rogaland - Av Eikundsund
Bergenshus - Av Bergen
Bergenshus - Av Bergenshus
Bergenshus - Av Kinsarvik
Trøndelag - Av Trøndelag
Trøndelag - Av Audun
Trøndelag - Av Trondheim
Naumadal - Av Naumadal
Naumadal - Av Tinghaugen
Hålogaland - Av Somna

Now above Hålogaland there should be sami ( Lappish culture, suomenusko religion ) This should've been in the main game. Not sure why they removed it.

Hedmark - Av Hamar
Oppland - Av Dorvre
Oppland - Av Lillehammer
Akershus ( Possibly rename it to Bergheim?) - Av Bergheim
Vestfold - Av Skiringsal
Vestfold - Av Kaupang
Vestfold - Av Ulvdal
Telemark - Av Eidsstad

Here are a few randomly picked ones that fit.
Av Rosland
Av Bjerga
Av Eidsvoll
Av Tjessem
Av Haugen
Av Tjenet
Av Dalene
Av Island

You can basically just keep iceland as it is. The names fit. In fact. You can probably take all of the names that belong to iceland and use them as norwegian ones. If that's simpler. Oh and please include Rosland for Rogaland as a chieftain. It would make me super happy!

And remember while from outside perspective it might seem like norway was a whole. It was just a bunch of petty kingdoms, with infighting and shizzle. So basically each province has one king/chieftain. At least that's what I was taught.

I'll make sure to add it. ;)

Yea, im going to remove the title from the current character and create a whole bunch of duchies so they are not united. I still need to change up england again and remove them from york. The initial map I looked at was wrong. Instead I will just give the main viking dynasties claims on nearly every coastal county to encourage viking invasions. Ill probably boost their warrior cult building also to help the vikings invade some. :)

WIP Khazaria:
Khazaria1.jpg

To Do: Finish khazaria and change all the religions in eastern europe. Bulgaria wasn't even christian yet until the 860's so im not sure how christianity would spread since characters don't have an option of embracing a faith... Im busy tomorrow but wednesday I should be able to post a very nice update! :)

Great stuff!

And if you're interested in viking stuff I suggest giving this a read. Not sure it will help with anything. But I found it rather interesting.

And back then there was no norwegian, swedish or danish culture. They all spoke the same language. Not sure if you can create cultures? But maybe have it as scandinavian? Or just.. Viking?

First of all, this mod looks great. Now, I asked you a question a few pages back but did not get an answer. How will you treat Iceland ? In real life it was colonized in 875-930 by a lot of Norse, mainly Norwegians. Are you going to have them as Norse provinces in 844 ? Or are you going to have an Irish culture ?There is a strong possibility that Irish people lived here before the Norse and then the Norse conquered them between 875 and 930. After that I guess the Irish were assimilated into Norse culture.

I forgot to add that the holder of the title of the Duchy of Nitra should also hold the title of Count of Pressburg (Pressburg, Sopron and Estergom should still be a together de jure Duchy of Pressburg, though the title is not hold by anyone at the beginning). I also looked more at the Great Moravia map and found out that the province of Pecs and like the western half of Heves and entire Ungvar should be Moravian (though loosely controlled) at the beginning. That would require province border redraws - see this map for reference: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/55/Great_Moravia-eng.png

The entire Duchy of Pecs (renamed to Duchy of Balaton), capital at Sopron (named Blatnograd - heavy fort) should be ruled by

Pribina (dynasty of Nitra) (800 - 864) - former: duke of Nitra (815 - 830), Count of Nitra (815 - 830), Count of Trencin (815 - 830), Count of Pressburg (815 - 830) = he has claims to these provinces
- now he is Duke of Balaton (840 - 864), Count of Sopron/Blatnograd (840 - 864), Count of Vas (840 - 864), Count of Szekesfehervar (840 - 864), vassal of East Francia (840 - 864)

Wilhelmina von Bayreuth (??? - ???) - Bavarian wife of Pribina

Amalrich lowborn (??? - ???) - Bavarian Prince-Bishop of Pecs (843 - ???), vassal of Pribina

Kocel of Nitra (??? - 876) - Count of Fejer (840 - 864), son of Pribina, heir to Pribina

Other names of historical people from Pribina's realm/court:
Slav : Unzat, Chotemir, Liutemir, Zcurben, Siliz, Wlkina, Witemir, Trebiz, Brisnuz, Zuemir, Zeska, Crimisin, Goimer
Bavarian : Altwart, Wellehelm, Fridepercht, Scrot, Gunther, Gunther, Arfrid, Nidrih, Isanpero, Rato, Deotrih, Madalperht, Engilhast, Waltker, Deotpald

Also: All the Hungarian province names held by either Moravia or Balaton should be re-named. Also, the local cultures should be changed.

I think it would just be better to have 2 Norwegian counties with one castle each.

I agree. Seeing how there is no way to colonize.

A great help would be what they should be named, and what culture?

I agree. Seeing how there is no way to colonize.

Since it has not been confirmed that there was an great settlement in Iceland prior to 875 it is a good way.

It is known however that some Irish people lived ther 200 years before 875 and not all of them were priests. One way that the colonization could be simulated is to have one province, maybe the eastern one (which is called Austisland in game, it should be called Austurland, but that is another story), be a Norwegian/Norse one and Vestisland (which again, should be Vesturland) have an Irish culture.

Let's call the culture Moravian. The ruling class ought to be entirely of that culture, unless otherwise specified. But the span of the culture + the new names - I will do that when I will actually see the countries on the map ;).

Also: I have thought of the existence of the De Jure Kingdom of Hungary at the game start AND IMO it does not give much sense...so I have thought of the existence of Great Moravia as a De Jure Kingdom. But the problem is that the duchy of Moravia can't belong to two de jure Kingdoms.

Some thoughts:
1. Leave it as it is
2. De Jure Moravia encompassing Pressburg, Nitra, Bohemia and Moravia
3. De Jure Kingdom of Not-sure-what encompassing Pressburg, Nitra, Balaton, Moravia remaining titular

Sorry for not answering. When I think Iceland, I think Norse. So if its not norse all ready, then I will make it such. Thinking of Irish in Iceland just seems odd to me. @_p

Any reason not to make it norse?

Is it possible to make it 80% Norse and 20% Irish (Like, being assimilated). Just a very (extremely) minor thing, but cool anyway.
