Hello. I am new to this forum. I did a quick search to see if this was reported previously but couldn't find any prior posts about it.

Cargo trains only have one head locomotive.

Would it be possible to patch the game to add a second locomotive at the end of the train such as it happens with passenger trains, trams, monorail, etc.?

That way, when cargo trains do reverse, the simulation gets a bit more realistic.

Thank you!

Make long on and off line away from the built-in national line or user-built main line, allow for a turnaround point at the freight stations to prevent freight trains from running backwards like idiots and avoid mixing passenger and freight trains together. Some examples from some of my cities:

You could use Advanced Vehicle Options mod to enable a second locomotive at the end of your fright trains, might be slightly unrealistic but it works.

Another suggestion is to consider using one way rail in then out of your freight stations. Don't be afraid to use them as they help immensely with controlling the train flow and to avoid criss-crossing incoming and outgoing trains.

A freight train station utilizing one way rails to deter trains from running backwards and more importantly to avoid criss-cross of train traffic.

Simple enough if the station is at the end of the line. A bit trickier if it is not. Mixing the one way loop in along with a loop siding could get messy.

It's 100% doable. Below you'll see the national line running horizontally in the middle and then a passenger train and a freight terminal using loops and pass thrus that goes north, east and west relative to this map(I have no trains/stations that run to the south). Using one way stretches help to guide the AI for them to prevent criss crossing, backups and running backward.

I never said it wasn't doable.
I said that it's trickier and could get messy.
Your pictures seem to prove that point. ;)

Your pictures are interesting though, as I have never tried to do anything like it. I don't think I have ever used a one way track.
I do use loop sidings all the time, but that is it.

What's the black blob just right of center? Looks like Sharpie.

I did do some hard-core rail line exchange at that last picture haha. The game was throwing some hard-core volume of trains in and out and that was my only way to stop clogging my city up. I also didn't have a viable space anymore to move my exports industry with its station on that map so...
