Distribution of goods is rather limited, there are only 3 options:
Distribution by Van
A van is send from the Industrial Zone to the Commercial zone to transport goods.
Advantage
Local production and local consumption!
Problems
- Vans have a low capacity -> Result -> Lots of vans needed to transport goods resulting in very high "unnecessary" van traffic
- Distance traveled, usually the Industrial areas and Commercial areas are separated by a quiet a distance, resulting in long travel times and resulting in more traffic.
Distribution by Train
Trucks deliver goods to the Cargo Train Station. Train goes to another Station, Vans handle Distribution.
Distribution by Boat
Boat arrives at the dock vans handle Distribution.
Problems
You need to be close to an outside connection. Not viable on maps with little to no water!!
Only imports goods???? Does not use local goods???? (not sure about this)
Solution
Cargo Distribution Center
Concept:
Trucks pickup goods from local industry, they deliver those goods to a Cargo Distribution Center. From this Cargo Distribution Center, vans and small city trucks are used to deliver the goods to the local Commercial Zones.
Behavior would be similar to Cargo Train station and Cargo Harbor, except it would NOT distribute raw materials for your industry.
Advantage:
- Trucks have 2/3/4/5x the capacity of a van. Resulting in less traffic on the highway's and in the Industrial zones.
- More flexibility on maps with little to no water
- Not forced into trains
- Gives the option to increase distance between Industrial and City
