This is true, but that's because I'm a relatively average tactician and not completely nuts. Which is why I look at your playthroughs and marvel at your success before shaking my head and wondering why the RNG gods don't favor me like thatRight, but your still not about to take on a 4 skull mission with a 1 skull lance...
You aren't about to take any mission you have less than a 10% chance of winning, on Ironman.
Being able to save gives you the freedom to do insane things for fun. You won't make a profit even if you win, but that's not the point. I often do it just to see if it can be done, considering surviving with 1 crippled mech as a victory. But in Ironman, that'd never be a victory, even at that kind of "best possible result".
This is what I mean. I do enjoy extreme challenge though, so I may be somewhat alone here...
I absolutely agree that having saves lets you do crazy things for fun. I was never attempting to claim that Ironman was 'the right way' to play the game. The Alt-F4 comment was, in fact, a joke. It works, but it doesn't feel good because it goes against the point of Ironman...and if you chose Ironman you really should respect the rules of Ironman.
There is NOTHING wrong with playing Career Mode with Ironman disabled. There. I said it.
Turning off Ironman in Career Mode will do ABSOLUTELY nothing with respect to the difficulty level of the opfor or the enjoyment that you get from game. The only thing it will do is use up disk space and, potentially, make it take longer to load the game because of all the saves. That's it.
