Chapter 6: No Longer in the Cradle

2200 to 2220

Alisa Seleznovya’s Term as Primer would see earth become fully united fullfilling a long awaited dream. Though terrorists worked hard at trying to prevent it from coming to pass. At the same time mysterious and secrets found in other star systems would begin to rewrite what humanity knew about the galaxy and their own history.

Fighting Terrorism
akvn26w.jpg

February 2201. Gagarin Station.

Yevhen Sychyov and several members of his crew were doing yoga exercises when a messenger came running to the room. After three knocks, the crew stopped their workout and then Sychyov went to meet with the messenger.

“What is the matter, comrade?” He asked as he rolled his neck lightly.

“We. just got word from Pluto. Terrorists have attacked the miners and crew working to build a new mining station there. Interkosmos command wants the fleet alerted at once.” the messenger said.

For a single moment Yevhen said nothing but balled his hand up tightly into a fist before taking a breath and then opening it. “Thank you, Comrade. The fleet shall be made ready at once” Yevhen responded.

The fleet crew would then be called into action. Interrupting what many of them were doing at them. The fleet that existed was a small one consisting of three ships, the Odwazny, Qinzhou, and the Pioneer. It was the Pioneer that served as the center ship and the one that Yevhen commanded the small fleet from.

The first Battle in space
April 2201 The space between Mars and the Asteroid belt

“Admiral Sychyov, they are refusing all communications.” Hua Wong spoke as she tried to hail the hijacked ship again.

“We have given them plenty of ways to end this peaceful,” He said pausing before he pressed a button to speak to all three ships in the Kosmoflot that was pursuing the terrorists.

“Proceed to fire on my command, but keep the ships alive.” He said and then nodded to give the order to fire on the ships. Several lasers were fired at the three terrorists ships. Sychyov watched the combat information center that displayed the military information. Due to the distances in space, combat was not the same fast speed on earth. Broadsides were fired at thousands of kilometers at best

As the lasers reached their target several blue reflector shields were raised. Sychyov and the whole crew blinked as the terrorists ships had shields. “That shouldn’t be possible. They have Deflector Shields..” Wong said as she monitored communication between the three ships. Sychyov clenched his jaw before taking a breath.

After sometime of fighting, Wong noticed something on her screen from the opposing ship. “The ship has stopped firing. Its sensors have stopped” Wong said, pausing before she spoke again. “I do not know if anyone is alive but a small boarding party would be able to infiltrate and figure it out.”.

“Very well, I will take a small crew with me. Be prepared for any sort of deception” Sychyov responded.

A shocking discovery
A week later the small boarding ship had docked with the Terrorist ship. As Sychyov and the crew boarded, the power had been cut but oxygen was still stable. Despite the fact that the crew were not taking any chances and had their helmets on.

As they crossed a hallway, gun fire illuminated the terrorists ship. Instead of saying a word, Sychyov gestured quickly to take cover and return fire. They would move from hallway to hallway and soon they were able to corner and disarm several terrorists and were brought to a temporary holding cell in the SZK Pioneer.

“Have you been able to get anything out of this group” Sychyov spoke to a man who had been interrogating and questioning them.

“Yes. They are descendants of a lost colony ship from roughly sixty years ago. Deeply Religious. It seems that they want to create a theocracy and for all humankind to worship their religion.” He said.

“Religious Zealots. I thought such zealotry died out ages ago.” Sychyov spoke with a shake of his head.

“Be that as it may. They do have some allies in our government. Hence why they had deflector shields” The man responded.

“How many do they have?” Sychyov asked.

“I was unable to get that out of them. That said I will inform the Shield at once.” He said to which Yehven nodded in agreement.

Later at the CIC Hua Wong approached Sychyov. “Admiral. I was able to detect some faint ion readings from past the Kuiper Belt. They match the same readings as the ships we fought. Several Star systems away from Earth is where they are coming from. That is what we can trace. The closest one is in the Bernard’s Star system.” She stated formally as she relied the information to the admiral.

“Make a course for Bernard’s Star at once then and Prepare for anything” He stated. After which the fleet would begin to make its way towards Bernard’s stary system and another cell of terrorists.

Exploring the Stars
2200 - Gagarin Station

“Konstantin Tsiolkovsky once stated ‘Earth is the cradle of humanity, but one cannot live in a cradle forever’ These words would later be echoed by Vladimir Komarov when he stepped onto the moon for the first time in 1969. Today we eacho them as we seek to travel the stars. As we explore new stars to understand our galaxy. Our mission is to explore new worlds and stars, To seek out new life, and to go where no one has gone before.” - Kryspyn Szczrur as the SZK Sputnik made its maiden voyage to beyond the solar system.

As the SZK Sputnik departed from Gagarin Station and traveled past the Kuiper belt to begin the jump to lightspeed and travel to another star, there was much fanfare throughout the solar system. This would be the first time Humans left the solar system. As everyone watched the ship travel beyond the solar system the anthem of Interkosmos, 14 minutes to start, began to play. No one knew what lay beyond the Solar system but what they did discover would change what people knew of the galaxy forever.

Secrets on Alpha Centauri
2203 - Alpha Centauri

Kryspyn Szczrur and a small crew had descended to the planet to get a better look at strange readings that had been uncovered.

“Finally I got the system up and working” Berenika Kovalchuk said as she had finished rewiring the ancient data center. “Let us see what this thing can tell us” She added, with more than a hint of pride at her work.

The station began to hum with life as a map of the nearby star systems glowed faintly from a holographic projector. Several stars including Alpha Centauri glowed more brightly than the rest.

“This looks like our own section of the Milky Way” Szczrur commented.

“That it does.” Kovalchuk responded before pausing to add “Caracharorion...”

“You have a clue what that means?” one of the other crew members commented.

“The name of their species I think,” Szczrur states after staring at the map, before continuing, “Caracharorion... If this map is correct and this is our section of the Milky way then these Caracharions operated here thousands of years ago.”

As the crew descended the lower levels of the station they came into a room filled with pods. They were densely packed throughout

“Oh.. God…” Berenika stated clearly horrified as she looked over one of the pods. In the pod was another human. It looked to be a young woman no more than 17 wearing shackles. It was clear from her expression that she died from suffocation.

Kryspyn looked at the pod next to him and was equally horrified. “They are humans.” He stated as he looked over the pod containing a human man with crude nervous implements embedded into their flesh. “All of them are human…” He said less horrified and more somber and melancholic as he and the crew looked over the various stasis pods.

“We shall take these pods back up and give each of them a proper funeral back on earth.” Kryspyn stated firmly and with sorrow. “Not like this grave that these monsters gave them.”

It would take some time to load the numerous pods onto the Sputnik, still it was done. They would stop on earth to bury the ancient humans. This discovery shocked most of humanity as it did the crew of the sputnik. The other star systems that the map seemed to indicate would be the next stops for the Sputnik to travel to.

Alien Life
2205 Tau Ceti III

The SZK Sputnik arrived at the third planet of Tau Ceti. The third Planet was similar to earth in size, though its moon was made entirely of water.

“The readings from the Planet indicate that the atmosphere is breathable. But that isn’t the strangest thing.” Berenika Kovalchuk stated.

“What would be the strangest thing” Kryspyn asked curiously as he looked over the scientific readings.

“Well it could be the floating land masses or the skyscraper ruins. Take your pick.” She said simply.

“Well we shall head down to see if they have anything to do with those monsters in Alpha Centauri.” Kryspyn said as he went to the elevator that would take him to where the shuttle was to visit the world.

Arriving on Tau Ceti III was an experience. As Kovalchuk stated the planet was covered in floating islands and landmasses. Some of which did indeed have the scattered villages and cities that looked similar to ones back on earth.

A large six legged animal that looked somewhat like a cross between a polar bear and a dog with large floppy ears, ran towards the crew. Everyone was on edge and they all had their side arms drawn and ready should the alien animal turn hostile. This did not happen. Instead the creature ran up to Kryspyn and acting like a puppy began to lick at them and run around them.

“I think it likes you captain.” Kovalchuk said with a playful smile

“That it certainly does” Kryspyn said as he petted the animal that was attacking him playful licks.

As they explored the Planet they discovered that the ruins were left in pristine condition. There was no sign of who built them. They were just gone. No sign of them at all or where they went.

“The planet deserves a closer look to excavate the ruins of who ever built them.” Krypsyn said to his crew.

“We still have our mission to explore the star systems around Earth” another member of the crew spoke up.

“That we do. That is our primary goal.” He stated.

“Captain. May I suggest when we speak with intkos command about this discovery to have Dr. Hamidi lead the excavation of the ruins” Kovalchuk stated.

“You know her well?” the captain asked.

“Yes. She is quite the talented researcher. I worked alongside her before I joined the Sputnik. I believe she would be perfect for the job.” Kovalchuk stated.

“Very well I shall make sure that they know.” Kryspyn said.

A Report on the Ruins of Tau Ceti III
2215

The Ruins from Tau Ceti III are of an ancient design. While at first it might be assumed that these ruins belong to the Caracharorion of Alpha Centauri, that is not the case. The architectural styles are completely different. Further examination of the ruins put the ruins of Tau Ceti III somewhere in the Billions of years ago at the very least, likely last lived in around the Proterozoic era back on earth.

They were built by a species known as the Zroni. Unfortunately the examination in Tau Ceti III did not give us much insight into their biology or even what they look like. The ruins left very few traces of them. However the central data core did detail some important details about their spiritual beliefs.

Compared to the previous theory that if there was to be any alien species out they they would have given up on religion, the Zroni throw some doubt into that idea. It seems that they were rather religious and superstitious believing strongly in the idea that there was some sort of misty veil between the spirit world and the mortal world that is translated simply as Shroud. They believe that when a person’s spirit goes across this shroud they become a deity of some sort. Furthermore, it seems that they believe in the ability for spirits and demons to affect someone through interacting with their dreams.

We still do not not know what caused their disappearance. It is unlikely to be mass suicide as their is no evidence of mass killing. Nor did they seem to abandon their cities as we have not found anything that would suggest that they left the cities for the wilderness. However, while we currently do not know what happened to them; we do know that they had colonies in the Galaxy. Further study could illuminate more as to whom these Zroni were.

Unification Day
2213.09.08 - Earth

The goal of uniting the earth into one nation, one Soviet Union, was a long awaited dream. It was also an objective that Alisa Seleznyova had promised back in 2200, and many were wondering if she was going to achieve the goal of the 2217 deadline that the Supreme Soviet had wanted.

However in 2213 the dream final materialized and for the first time in Human history, Humankind was united into one government. Thus the 8th of September would be dubbed Unification Day. All throughout the earth people were celebrating. From Moscow to London, from Beijing to Casablanca, from Toronto to Santigo and everywhere else there were parades and marches as people celebrated this day.

It was this act that helped ensure Seleznyova her legacy. While the process was almost a century old if not longer, Alisa gave a face to the unification movement in the final stretch of the process. While there were other acts that helped ensure she would be remembered, notably cleaning up the Pacific Ocean and removing the Great Garbage Patch. It was her actions in bringing the earth together that was a cause for celebration.

The fact that there were humans who rejected this and had joined the Terrorists who were not bound by the rules of Earth was a cause of concern for those within the government. After the terrorists were destroyed in the Banard’s Star system in 2205, most on earth regarded them to be over. It was the so called Caracharorion that occupied the fears of far more than terrorists. While no one knew if they were still out there or not, this discovery frightened many.

The colony of Mars grow
2216 - Mars

18lrz93kuqtdljpg.jpg

While humanity had long been on Mars and settling Mars since the late 21st century and 22nd century. It was only in the 23rd century that the planet was opened up for colonization. Before than one had to be either born on Mars or be part of Interkosmos due to the intense conditions on the planet.

To that end a number of programs had begun to make it more hospitable for humanity. Water had been discovered deep underground in Mars. This would bring about a terraforming project that while small in scale did help to contribute to making the planet more habitable for humanity. Though despite this, Mars was still largely inhospitable for humanity. Thus the cities of Mars were built into great domed cities.

By 2216 conditions and cities were established enough that it was migrating to Mars was made much more open. Though not to all, as one had to show that they were healthy and fit for living on an alien planet. This did mean that more people on Mars tended to come from among the elite and well off.

Life on the red planet was often described as a strange mix of rural and urban life. Because of the obvious fact that one’s space was limited by the domed city they were in, one had to make the most of the space. However, compared to most cities on Earth they had far less people. So the housing blocks were more like communal villages then communal apartments. Naturally this had the effect of making the Pro-martian voices demanding that Mars become an SSR grow louder and louder and by the end of Seleznyova’s term of office in 2220 this issue had yet to be resolved.

The Red Planet is coming into its own. Hopefully the transition from colony to self-governance will go smoothly.

The idea of precursor aliens performing experiments on primitive humans is somewhat unsettling. Hopefully these Caracharorions have already gotten what was coming to them...

Which Propaganda Poster? If you are referring to the colony of Mars image, that is from the CCCP 2061 Art Project, which has quite a few pictures of the Soviets in Space or on planets(mainly Mars) which I am using for inspiration here. :)

Also sorry that this weeks chapter will be a bit late, I was a bit busy over the weekend.

Chapter 7: A Miraculous Discovery
2220 to 2240

The Soviet Union during the 2220s and 2230s was a period of exploration and discovery. After nearly two ten year terms Alisa Seleznyova would step down as Premier and First Deputy Yin Huiling would be elected as Premier. His term as Premier followed in the footsteps of Seleznyova’s term and continued exploring the stars and expanding the Union. It was during his term that that the most remarkable discovery would happen that would change everything.

Martian Progress
Most of the expansion during the early years concentrated on the Red Planet. The Population of Mars was rapidly increasing during this time both from the immigrants and more Martians being born. This naturally saw an increase in pressure on them to become their own SSR.

The Dark Side of the Moon
UeHF3Db.jpg

That said the first focus for the Huiling for Mars was not the reforms but the fact that something had been uncovered that revealed something was wrong with the Moon Deimos. No one was quite sure what this was. Some thought it could be the moon going out of orbit, others thought had stranger more pseudo-scientific claims.

It would take several years but eventually the mysteries of Demios were revealed. While it was common knowledge that Demios was less of a moon and more of an asteroid, the discovered reinforced that understanding while providing details of what happened to the moon. Demios it seemed came from another part of the system, hypothesized to be from the Kuiper Belt near the outer edge of the solar system and was used as a weapon by either the Zroni or the Carachorion in the distant past.

More important than the origin of the Moon was the fact that the far side of the Moon was rich in Dark Energy. This in turn brought about a flurry of activity from scientists in the Union that sought to explore and figure out how to use it. It was theorized that if properly harnessed, the potential of dark energy was limitless but till humans can work with it, much of the research remains academic at this point.

Victory for Mars

Politically Mars had grown by leaps and bounds during the 2220s and 2230s. The discovery of dark energy on Mars in 2223 brought more attention to the Red Planet and consequently more people looked to start a new life there.

After a long and heated debate the Supreme Soviet decided a series of reforms. First Mars would become the Martian Soviet Socialist Republic granting its own autonomy. Second, the rest of the Solar System would be organized into a Stellar Solar Soviet Socialist Republic or SSSR, this would also be expanded to other star systems granting the various miners and research scientists a vote in the Supreme Soviet. Third, should a planet reach the threshold of population and support to reflect that it is autonomous than it will become its own SSR. Fourth, if that planet is in another Star system than the rest of the rest of the star system becomes part of that SSR unless it also can meet the threshold.

This was done due to the fact that several planets were being discussed among the government and the populace as to where there might be the next colony be. Thus to avoid another political quagmire like Mars had become, these plans were made to make sure things are smoother in the future.

As for the future plans of expansion, some suggested Terraforming Venus or Titan while others suggested thawing out Europa. However the planet that quickly took over everyone’s imagination was Tau Ceti III or as it would later be known Copernicus.

Terra Nova

cosmoport.jpg

After expanding the colonization on Mars, Interkosmos began to look at Tau Ceti III as a potential place to settle for humanity. The world was remarkable earth-like. The world was classified as a Crag world, thus largely cold and rocky but with a breathable atmosphere. Where Mars required habitable domes to live in, Tau Ceti III was not going to need that.

Adding to this was the fact that animal life on the planet was surprising friendly and docile. These animals were going to play a major role in helping to settle the planet. Adding to that were the abandoned cities of the Zroni. Though it should be noted that many of the ruins were not used at first. This was due to a combination of governmental policies and general fearful nature. While most regarded the Zroni as long gone no one knew what lurked in the cities and a number of wild stories and superstitions were spread.

The question was what to call the planet. Many names were chosen but in the end, the Name of Copernicus was chosen. The planets of Tau Ceti as a whole would be renamed honoring the pioneers of Astronomy that lead mankind to see the stars. The names of the planets and moons were chosen from across the world. The moon of Copernicus now named Kepler was a bright blue ball that was an just ocean.

Settling the new world
Compared to Mars which already had a human population and due to the environmental issues, cities and towns had to be built within habite bubbles, this wasn’t the case on Copernicus. As such one was able to build pretty much anywhere they wanted to on the planet and people did.

Where Mars was highly urban Copernicus was far more rural. Despite the Zroni cities more people came to get away from the hustle and bustle on Earth. It was far easier for a large family or a group of families to migrate to Copernicus and begin to establish a new life for themselves.

One of the more common sights on Copernicus was the Chull an animal similar to a cross between a yak and a horse which lent to its more common name the horned horse. Because of the more rural nature of Copernicus and the time it took to transport technology from Earth, the Chull was a beast of burden that helped out on the farms. With there being very few roads many people would take to riding them for transportation.

The rural nature was not the case everywhere on Copernicus, most notably in the capital city of Marxgrad which was one of the few places to actual build itself in the ruins of the Zroni city. This in turn would lead to two factions rising on Copernicus which can be boiled down to urban and rural. The urban faction favored using the zroni ruins and rebuilding them for mankind and well urbanizing the planet. While the Rural faction wanted to avoid the ruins as well as preferring to focus on communal farms.

Carachorion Discoveries
The Sputnik would explore looking for clues for the mysterious Carachorions that apparently terrorized humanity in the distant past. However they would discover secrets and horrors of the Carachorions.

The Rogue Ship
2231 - Feddu

nhCmQ0z.jpg

“Be Prepared for anything, comrades.” Safiyyah Ilyukhina stated to the crew behind her as they approached the ship. They give a nod in response and prepared to board the Carachorion Ships.

As soon as they entered the ship they were immediately beset upon by shambling bodies. Most of them were humanoids of some sort though they didn’t look like humans at all. More like machines with a grey flesh over it, or a botched robotization process happened.

“Sweet Jesus.” One person muttered as they started to move towards them.
“Open Fire.” Safiyyah shouted the order as she started to shoot back at the shambling creatures.

Lasers flew fast and furious as the soviets fought against those shambling creatures. After several minutes of fighting the shambling bodies. However they could hear the shambling further down the hall as more approached.

“Ma’am, they are not alive. They did something to them.” one of the men in the Soviet boarding crew said firmly but also a bit nervously as he looked over the corpse of one of the creatures. “They seem to have some sort of Neural Implementing” He stated after taking another look over the corpse. Safiyyah clenched her jaw and her left hand tightly at this news. She then gave the order to move from the initial boarding spot down the left hall.

As they explored the ship, they would be constantly attacked by these creatures. It didn’t matter how many that they killed they would not attacking. They were like some sort of robotic zombies. Eventually they would get to the bridge of the ship where the creatures stopped coming after them.

The bridge was covered in dust as it clearly had not been in use for ages. Safiyyah took a moment to get the diagnostics of the ship and where they came from, hoping that it would reveal the location of these monsters. A lot of the data was hard to decipher and would require looking at the other data that had been gathered. Yet, the readings did indicate that the Ship experienced a malfunction with their faster-than-light drive.

As the team was reading the reports over and retrieving the data, they heard a loud piercing noise.
“What in the world was that” one of the team members stated as she covered her ears.
“We need to get out of here and fast” Another responded.
“Agreed. Follow me.” Saffiyyah stated as she grabbed the data.

“That sound woke these things up.” Someone in her team stated as they ran through the halls of the ship to their vessel that boarded with the Carachorion ship.

As they boarded their ship and headed to the Sputnik to provide the data for them to use they watched as the Cachorion ship was vaporized. Nothing was left behind of the ship.

Some Secrets are left Buried
n6D49PY.jpg

The data that had been gathered looking around the galaxy for the Carachorions would eventually reveal the location of what seems to be their homeworld, Carchar. What made it nervous for humanity was that they were not that far from the Sol System as the hyperlane to get there went first to Alpha Centauri. The Sputnik was sent their immediatly to discover what they could.

The first planet that they set on was a gas giant that was identified as Anghenfil. As they approached the gas giant they noticed countless star ships that were floating above the planet. Their flight paths were able to be recovered for while it currently couldn’t be read perhaps more data would reveal more about these creatures.

The second location that they explored was Erlid one of the moons of Anghenfil. It seemed to be mostly be a scientific research center. However even after all these years it was clear that the personal here was massacred. Yet as the science team explored the facility more, they discovered what could only be propaganda of some sort. It was theorized that this propaganda was encouraging rebellion against the homeworld. Furthermore some tactical data was discovered.

As Sputnik moved on from Anghenfil and to another planet in the system. All of a sudden a host of star ships came out of nowhere. They responded to no hails. Like the Ship in the Feddu system, these ships were hostile from the beginning. However the phrase “Some Secrets are left buried” was able to be deciphered and translated that the host of ships was sending to the Sputnik.

The sputnik would evade these ships and head for Alpha Centauri and from there they would contact Interkosmos at once. The host of ships in Carchar was a concern for everyone. However, more worrying is that from the tactical data that they found plus their experiences with the rogue ship in Feddu, Interkosmos was not yet ready to take on the host. To that end, a program was approved by the Supreme Soviet to begin expanding the military section of interkosmos.

SETI’s dream achieved
HiHf1EA.jpg

Late 2230s would see the impossible happen. While mankind had encountered the ruins of the Zroni and the automated Ships of the Carachorions and though they had found alien life on Copernicus; none of that was intelligent life that currently remained. That all changed in 2238 when they encountered intelligent life in the galaxy.

In 2238 the Sputnik would come in contact with a strange ship as they were exploring one of the nearby stars. At first it was thought that the ship belonged to the Carachorions however it did not match the designs of the Carachorions. Moreover it was actually responding to the calls from the Sputnik. However, it was in an entirely foreign language that sounded nothing like what humanity heard.

A year later the alien language would finally be deciphered and open communication would happen with the aliens. They called themselves the Xutunians and that they had no hostile intentions with humanity. They belonged to what was translated as Republic of Xutuna. In late 2238 it was decided that a diplomatic mission between the two species would begin in order to learn more about each other’s society and culture.

Kazimir Petrov’s Report on the Xutunians
Novemeber 23rd, 2239

My time upon Xuntuna has been rather pleasant. Throngs of people gathered and cheered as we arrived on the capital. Though obviously they have some elements of biology and culture that are rather foreign to us and vice versa, they were exceedingly polite to myself and others that were part of the diplomatic Mission.

They come from an arctic world. Imagine if the entire planet was akin to Scandinavia or Canada and that gives a bit of an impression of their environment. Most of their homes are warmer but rather freezing compared to what humans are used to.

The Xutunians seem to be similar to the Mollusca family back on earth. They have several tentacles coming from their face. They use them for everything, numerous gestures involve these tentacles. I was able to learn a few of the gestures but many of them remain a mystery to me.

Similar to other Mosculed such as Squids and Octopuses, the Xutunians reproduce via lay eggs. Compared to humans, though it can take quite a long time before one is born, taking roughly a year before hatching from an egg. Apparently it's generally only a single at a time. They lay them in spawning pools that help nurse the egg and are watched over by Qamaks, who are a combination of midwife, nurse, and preschool teacher. Now one thing I found out is that by and large the Xutunians are asexual. Sex is purely for repduction for them. They derive no pleasure from it and found the concept that Humanity does to be completly foreign to them.

This does help to explain the Xuntanian family dynamic or lack of one. They do not have the concept of a family. A father’s role ends at insemination, a mother’s role ends when they lay an egg in the spawning pool. The Qamaks also handle the process of birth contracts to ensure that the two seeking to breed are not too related to one another.

However, as these spawn pools were a mixture of a nursery and preschool, it is the connection between the spawn mates and their Qamaks that tend to be the most important relationships. Many tend to have lifelong connections with their spawn-mates similar to brothers and sisters among humans.

Governmental wise they practice a form of technocracy. I don’t think there is a single person in their government who is not a scientist of some form. They strongly believe in the ideas of meritocracy over democracy. That being said, while they are not communists, they do believe in similar values of ensuring that everyone is taken care of in their society.

They do tend to be fascinated by other species and were very interested to learn all that they could about humanity and the Soviet Union. Despite at times that they would regard human customs and beliefs as being strange or odd they were more than happy to learn about our cultures and customs.

In terms of entertainment they find the most entertainment in mental games, though apparently a few physical games also do exist though are not as popular as mental games. Board games are the most popular form of entertainment. Their biggest sporting event is similar to the olympics but it focuses mostly on scientific fields instead of athletics. Similar to the Olympics which have different sporting events their games have numerous different events that focus on different fields of science from Mathematics to Physics and even to Philosophy and Literature.

Do not assume though that they are like robots. For as different as some of their customs and culture are that doesn’t mean that they are without emotion. One thing that was rather similar was that they can be passionate about their sports as we can. Even though the sports are intellectual based it did not stop their fans from being passionate about who would win and who would lose.

Indeed, especially since I have devouring swarms, killer robots, Genocidal aliens out there, plus several capitalist governments. I am glad that I got one of the nicer guys. :p

I am curious what readers think of the description I have for the Xutunians? :)

I liked it. It was a really good idea to view the Xutunians through a scientific/diplomatic report. Plus the references back to Earth and Human culture served as good reference points for just how "alien" these xenos are.

The Xutunians themselves kinda remind me of the Salarians from Mass Effect 3, with their society placing such an emphasis on science and meritocracy, not to mention their unconventional (from our point of view) approach to procreation. On the whole the Xutunians are intriguing. Not too alien, but not too similar to us either.

It seems that there is more and more evidence every decade that our solar system has been tampered with in the distant past. Some might find the implications of this to be quite unsettling.

I am curious what readers think of the description I have for the Xutunians?

I was momentarily confused when I saw them described as "asexual," since the word has a slightly different meaning in the context of biology. Other than that, no issues here -- certainly seems alien enough without being implausible.

Yea, the Salarians were a major source of insperation for me for them. Mass Effect as a whole is a great big source of inspiration for me. :)

I got the Carachorions and the Zroni in my neighborhood so that evidence is pretty likely.

I do plan on providing similar information about the other various aliens that humanity comes in contact with. :)

I have to sadly announce that this AAR will be shelved. I have been rather busy with real life stuff and I have a new job in the future. Which is really great for me. It also means that I have to leave my main desktop PC at home during the training period. So sorry to announce this. Maybe in the future I will pick this up or do another AAR.
