Ok so i'm under state capitalism... not best for these guys i know, but... i have some super wealthy capitalists and they wont build jack... i though they needed over $2000 and they would build something?

Is there some other tech i need or some other political setting?
I could really do with their assistance, rail roading my eu2-vik china is a huge task...

I know i can build myself...

It's not factories i'm after... i want them to build railroads...

I've built up an industry base providing surpluses of everything, it's just the railroads...

I thought they were supposed to do some buildign under statecapitalism and they do none... bit annoyed...

however i do understand how frustrating it can be with the factories etc, i think the capitalists start from the bottom up for the ecconomy, lumber, clothes, furniture, wine, liquor, glass, etc and then move up the food chain?

Something like that...

... yes, they like to build everything before the go and build something sufficient or expand the one you got. As my strategy usually is to big a lot of steel and lumber factories in the beginning so then it is anoying.

I´ve heard that if you wan´t to make them build a sertain factory you schould make sure that you are buying that product so they see the demand. Another thing is to have unemployed craftsmen/clerks in a state where you have a factory you want to expand. Have I heard.

Oh, railroad. Yeah. That is what the capitalists are doing best. I think it is strange that they don´t build at all. I have got some (not much) building during state cap. Try to make them even richer (or tax them to death and build it yourself :)). Railroads is quite expansive to build for yourself.

£2000 is usually enough for the capitalists to build a railroad under an interventionist government. I haven't played much with state capitalism, but I reckon a capitalist would need like £3000 or £4000 to build a railroad, depending on how industrialised yourt country is.

The thing with capitalist building is that the internal calculations that determine what should be built mean that capitalists may very well decide that your nation would benefit more from investing in a factory now rather than in a railroad in a specific province. So you have no way of controlling what the capis build and it's only when the calculations done by the game engine conclude that railway is a better use of money than factory that they begin to be built.

Note that with less advanced civs and uncivs there is a bug in the capitalist logic. Developers are aware of it but having trouble isolating it. However, the root of the problem seems to lay with the capitalist logic trying to have capis build things that, technologically, the nation is not able to support. The result is the capis build up reserves, reach the total needed to build, spend money, but nothing is built because the country has not researched the tech or invention that allows construction.

So best thing for uncivs and less-advanced civs is to remain state capi until the first couple of classes of tech are researched. Building the first level of railway yourself also seems to help. Eventually by the second half of the game capis are able to build rail and factories, so something eventually triggers that resolves the bug, but what that something is remains unclear.

Thanks for the reply, but i'm in 1900 and they still do nothing, have got all bar one industry tech etc... I'm also ranked as a great power.

Any ideas? Also trying to change my rulling party does nothing, and no one (set to uni suff, right to ban, free meeting, free press) gets elected except the imperial faction regardless of who is most popular!!

Bit confused as i wanted to play a reformist china...
