Can't we use Ruler designer with IronMan/Achievement enable?

Except starting as the Byzantine Emperor isn't cheating. Using the ruler designer is.

RDing a count with good stats isn't really cheating. Otherwise, starting as one of the Sons of Ragnarr Lodbrok or as Khagan Temujin (Genghis Khan) would be cheating, and if you already start in charge of the Large Lavender Lump (Byz), there's not terribly much more you can do to be OP.

Basically, being Byzantium is basically cheating. At least as much so as the Ruler Designer.

Yes, using something to externally modify the starting conditions of the game is cheating.

If the devs think that starting as a min-maxed RD super count gives you any advantage over starting the game as an Emperor, Gengis Khan or 200 years earlier I strongly urge them to play their own game. Only a few genetic traits can be iherited possibly, maybe the guy that gets the genius trait doesn't get the main title and then you have a problem, not an advantage. If the problem with RD is balance then fix the tool, don't stop supporting a paid DLC. It's 4.99€ on steam so its a big deal if you stop suporting it after you sold it because the design was so unbalanced you though it's cheating. If Paradox thinks it's cheating then fix it! Having to have a Costumization pack (that also costs 4.99€) to have my name on the game is ridiculous. I actually have it but there are people who don't. Besides I can't costumize family name if I'm not the head of the dynasty - I tried making a merchant family with my name and could not with that message.

There are tools that unlock any Steam Achievement you want on your account anyway. So technically you could play the game without Ironman and still unlock them.

Bump because all these years later it's STILL wrong that the character creator isn't balanced enough to allow ironman mode achievements.

If RD was balanced enough for it not to be basically a cheat no one would use it. And yeah you don't need RD to name your dynasty and change your coat of arms.

Even then, it's the ability to change your religion and culture anywhere on the map that does it - it would make a number of achievements basically pointless.

I just use it to get a custom looking character and COA. Sometimes a religion/culture change. That and sometimes people don't want to play a historical character, they want to forge their own destiny. Though I never play Ironman, ever, for multiple reasons, I can see why people would want to earn achievements from a custom character though.

Gosh guys I'm sorry about that rant, I didn't even remember doing it till i saw the notification.

Could we not add achievement validation checks to the RD to fix it to a degree?

Probably what would be fair is to let achievements be earned only if the newly created character's culture and religion matches (or is at least in the same groups) as the original ruler.

A hard cap on selectable traits would be nice too. Like 7-10. And make genetic traits count as 2 or 3 each towards that hard cap. That leaves a lot of customizability while limiting the scope for exploitability immensely. The main point to bear in mind is that these restrictions would have to be tied to the Ironman toggle, or a new toggle within the ruler designer gui.
