Which feature? Ironman? How is that a large chunk of the game?
Ironman is mandatory for achievements. Those two combined are a large chunk of the game for some people.

It's a large chunk of things to do, much like playing a Nestorian and replacing the papacy with it, like playing as a Jew and building the third temple. No other "feature" in the game invalidates a user's Purchases. If it makes the game "too easy" for people then you're welcome to simply not use it. It's a feature, people paid for it, it shouldnt be the case that purchasing a DLC results in that DLC later on getting disabled. You do not charge your users money to purchase a part of your game and then tell them they cannot use it in future updates.

Most of the arguments boil down to someone saying "It's too easy to get the 'Get Married' achievement as a non-Norse player! All Catholics should be banned from getting that achievement!"

Havent seen such thought being expressed yet.

As for myself, I would like to play ironman with ruler designer and save editing (no cheats, I just hate playing ugly rulers). Since that is not possible (doesnt seem logical to me, but who am I to judge), Ill just borrow the achievement ideas and actually achieve it in my normal games and have fun. I dont need no shiny pixels in steam at all.

I personally dont understand people thinking of "achievements" as some kind of sacred skill based thing. They're a part of the game meant to be acquired. How people do it is up to them, not up to others to demand they do it the way they did it. What annoys me about this is Paradox producing content, having players pay for it, then locking that content away.

Probably the biggest reason you can't use it right now is because many achievements could be attained almost instantly after starting a game, just by changing the religion of one of the starting rulers. They'll probably re-enable the ruler designer when this issue is resolved, since it completely breaks the point of Ironman mode and those achievements.

Why not just enable console commands while we're at it?

Nobody's forcing you to do achievements. I personally have neither the patience nor interest to do them. If you want to use RD, then use RD. It's not "locked out" and it's illogical to even say that.

But trying to make achievements no longer actually achievements removes all meaning from the word achievement. You haven't paid for achievements -- it's just an added bonus. Nothing more.

The ruler designer is made trying to be somehow balanced (Otherwise it would just allow you to take anything with no penalties), so i guess if he is not balanced enough to be allowed in ironman mode, it should be revised and remade. I want to be able to use any dlc i bought with the full features of the game, and that includes ironman. That's my sincere and humble opinion. Help me paradox.

Why is it so bad? Ironman mode is supposed to be challenging.

Yes..... but a lot of the fun with the game is creating other challenges. I'm about to start an Irish Zoroastrian game for example. It would be nice if I could earn acheivements for all the time I'm gonna spend playing it. Maybe balance out the ruler generator a bit first, and restrict uber-powerful characters.

Really, the only achievement that the Ruler Designer should invalidate is Prestor John and anything that requires you to do something as a specific character (but duh, since if you RD a new king of Norway, you're not Harald Hardrada, so of course you can't get Hard Ruler).

At first I was a bit disappointed when I learned this since I tend to play customized rulers with some sort of scenario in mind and even though I don't care all that much about achievements overall I can sometimes enjoy hunting some of them and the sense of completion you get when you've gotten most of them or all. But then I quickly realized that some of them would be slightly moot if you could just customize a ruler and play a minimal amount of time to get something that would otherwise be very challenging. What I'd like to see changed though is the possibility to play Ironman with a customized ruler. I don't mind not being able to get achievements but I could probably appreciate the option of turning up the difficulty slightly by not being able to savescum at times.

That is very frustrating. I dont want to jump on paradox hate bandwagon, but I am very upset about this one.

You are not the only one, I am very upset with this descision.

I really disagree with their move on disabling the Ruler Finder for ironman mode. It is not a good practice to only allow certain DLC to work with certain difficulty levels or sets of play. It's a very bad prescident for future DLC where if I buy the Even More things 5! DLC it may not function with the Even Even More Things 6! DLC. I cannot have confidence in my purchases with Paradox if this is the direction taken. As well it also lacks any form of notification that Ruler Designer is disabled.

Normally I am supportive of PDS and I enjoy this game very much but not being able to use Ruler Design, (which I paid for over a year ago) with Iromman.. pissed me off. I love RD and I play with it 99% of the time, because I love being able to create ME and insert myself into CK2 and role-play it. It is so much fun!! Now that I can't do that with Ironman mode/obtaining Achievements, fustrates me and I feel it is total BS.

I even inquired about it here and it appear that at least a mod (I know it is not a dev) stated there should be no problems with it: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...p-Workshop&p=16391808&highlight=#post16391808

Maybe I am totally blind, but was it ever stated that this DLC would be incompatible with ironman?

What's so bad about this? With ruler designer disabled for Ironman, it's now much harder to get the achievements as it should be. However, maybe there should be an entirely different set of achievements that can be aquired with the ruler designer so that all sides can be happy.

What's so bad about this?

1. It was never stated that Ruler Design will be disabled in Ironman (if it was, then please provide me with a link and I will retract this statement)
2. If you as a consumer buy a product, you should be able use it without restrictions. In this case, A person who bought the DLC (ruler design) should be able to use it with Ironman.

I would be happy with an ironman that could be used with any settings and any mods. It would only autosave on exit and at whatever interval I set in my options (yearly). If such an ironman has achievements disabled, that would be fine. Better yet, have a mirror set of achievements that work under any settings at all and call the other ones the "master" version or whatever.

I don't think such a request is unreasonable, and I don't understand why Paradox is so stubborn about adding it.

1. Its kinda common sense.
2. Really? No restrictions? You can do whatever you want with your copy? Besides being totally wrong, okay, lets just run with that. You can use your game without any restrictions. Paradox doesn't have to give you the added service of hosting ironman saves, though.

1. Please care to explain how it is "Common Sense"... It's like saying: You bought all the DLC and it is "Common Sense" that you can't use some of them in Ironman?!?! That doesn't really make any sense to me.

2. PDS doesn't host your saves, It is saved in Steam, under the Steam Cloud... So it is Value who is hosting them.
