Can't take land from russia!?!

Going for the sultan of rum achivement, I just declared war on russia, using the holy war CB. They have hungary under PU and are allied to austria, who brought england into the war. So I carpet siege russia with all my army and kill all the spawning armies, so i get a 47 % warscore. I want to peace out before austria and england walks into my own land, but when i go to the peace screen I can't demand any provinces from russia! How the hell can that be? I'm part of a coalition against them, if it matters?

Coalition is the reason. If you are in a coalition vs your target, you can only take provinces that you either have a claim or core on, no matter what CB you use.

it's much more cost effective to use the coalition war to force russia to return cores to its neighbors, as well as releasing nations. That will give you a major relations boost to the released nations (and neighbors) so that you can diplo-vassalize them as an indirect way of taking land from russia. best of all, you save on admin costs for coring.

Best of luck wiping Russia off the map! I've had enough of that overpowered (relative to what was historically accurate for it in the 14th-18th centuries) hulk. That country takes minimal skill for a player to turn it into a competitive great power. Proof? Even the AI can do it! YAWN!

Actually it's somewhat easier for the ai because of the lucky bonus but he also doesn't have to wipe Russia off the map. It only requires 5 provinces to get the Ottoman achievement (assuming Russia took them all in the first place). You just take the provinces to isolate Moscow and then take Moscow itself.

I've never tried for this achievement before so I had no idea it only takes 5 provinces. I was under the impression that it was an Ottoman-Russian showdown to the death, which would certainly be a lot more interesting.

Nope, all you have to do is own Moscow, easily (relatively) accomplished through isolating it by taking/releasing all of Vladimir, Tver, Kaluga, Tula, and Ryazan owned by them then Moscow in a subsequent war. Of course it becomes even easier if Moscow isn't the capital.

well, managed to get moscow. Just need rome now. Shouldn't be a problem though.
