Cant´t Launch Game in 1.29

So the game updated OK, and I have the new launcher, when I click "Play" the game starts for a second and then closes, the only thing I see is the starting EU4 screen and then it closes.

I tried starting the game from the .exe in games files and the same happened.

I´m running a 1080 screen resolution. My Screen is not 4k. Win 10

I changed to both Fullscreen and borderless Fullscreen with no change.

If I revert back to 1.28 the game runs normally.

Any ideas?

If you are on Win7/8/8.1 you need to manually install the MS patch KB4019990

If that's not the issue, try deleting everything in your Documents/paradox/eu4/ folders, except any valued save games of course.

If still no good DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/EU4/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

I had the exact same problem: Eu4 screen for 1 sec then crash, Windows 10. What actually worked for me was the next thing AndrewT had me try after the steps they quoted you:

"Hmmmm. add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list."

Note that's for the anti-virus, and not just the firewall. I'd suggest trying this first.

Hi Andrew, I tried your suggestions and no change. Im running WIN 10, I also reinstalled EU4 and nothing changed. Tried starting directly from folder No Change, tried whitelisting eu4.exe on webroot antivirus No change. I uninstalled KB4515384 and no change.

Have you manually installed the MS patch KB4019990 ? Im running Windows 10, try to install the win 7 version because there is no win 10 version and got a message during installation that the update wasnt applicable to my PC.

Im not running compatibilty mode
The .NET found nothing,
I tried installing the update you mention but Im running WIN 10 and there was no win 10 version, tried installing win 7 version but got error message of not compatuble
The same, it launches for a second and then closes down again.
What I found out if that If I launch the game in "fullscreen", I can see the EU4 icon on the bottom of the screen for a second but no EU4 screen. If I change to "Borderless Fullscreen" or "windowed" mode, the EU4 starting screen pops for a seconf and then the game closes again.
It happens the same if i start from EU4.exe.
All my other Paradox games start OK

Specifically CK2, HOI4 and Stellaris? They are the ones most similar to this.

But I'm not confident those log files represent this problem properly. Please move all values save games somewhere else like the desktop, then delete the whole Documents/paradox/eu4/ file structure. Then try the game again, if it still fails does it at least recreate and populate those folders?

If not this is very likely the antivirus app still, I'm not familiar with Webroot. You may need help from them to fully allow the game to write to the system folders like Documents.

Hi Andrew, sorry couldn´t answer earlier, I deleted the game again, and erased the "Documents/paradox/eu4/ file structure", I also uninstalled the antivirus and the problem still persists.

CK2, Stellaris and HOI4 all run perfectly.

I also noticed that the folders you mention don´t recreate and populate as it was before, just a few folders are created. I am adding an image of the folders recreated.

I see OneDrive is running, it hasn't moved your Windows User folders onto itself, has it? I've seen our games get very unhappy with that.

But really if those other 64bit games of ours run okay but this one does not, something has to be getting in its way. Hard to tell what though. But really if those other 64bit games of ours run okay but this one does not, something has to be getting in its way. Hard to tell what though. I already uninstalled Webroot and tried playing the game with no antivirus and no change, also disabled Win Defender.​

The same, the game cant start, I see the EU4 and Stellaris screen for a moment and then closes.
I can play HOI4 and Imperator work fine.

I read in a forum that a recent windows 10 update might be causing an issue? Do you know if I should look for any particular WIN 10 update installed in my PC?

Seems like you do, or did, have significant .NET problems. If you run that repair again does it say the same things or run clean now?

If I start in windows safe mode, both games run.
