Hello, let me first say I'm very glad to be joining the Paradox family. I recently bought CK2 and all the dlcs and I'm loving it.

Today I saw EU4 on sale on gamersgate.com and decided to give it a shot. Long story short, I activated everything I bought on Steam and I can start the game fine, but I dont have a cd key for original EU4, just the dlcs.
The version I bought was EU4 Conquest Collection plus all the expansion packs including most recent, El Dorado. I even accidently bought American Dream even though it was already included in the Conquest Collection,
so if it's not against the rules pm me and I can give it to someone for free.

So a little help would be appreciated, how do see my EU4 cd key so I can register it here on the forum?

We are having a free-to-play weekend for EU4 like we did with CK2 last weekend. An unfortunate side effect is we have to turn off CD Key distribution for the EU4 base game, otherwise non-paying users would get free permanent access to our EU4 support resources. It will be turned on again after this Sunday.
http://store.steampowered.com/news/15933/

In the meantime you can still get technical support and report bugs in the Zendesk, and get access to the mods in the Steam Workshop.

Just go to your game directory (Programs files > Steam > SteamApps > Common > Europa Universalis IV) and start eu4.exe Game will start right away, with all the DLCs you own and you will be able to play till they fix all this "key issues". Enjoy the game!
at steam and it works, finally :)

While I really appreciate the offer (75% off) I have to confess that the first impression after purchase is anything else but impressive - you can't play the game you've bought without any hint by Paradox nor Steam to explain the reason why. As it's not your first play4free weekend you should know what will happen and "warn" your customers and offer them workarounds like Space_Owl did after many not so nice comments of various old and new owners. Cause it seems that even those ran into the can't play trap when buying additional DLCs.

Anyway, after the impressive "adverticements" of Quill and Arumba I'm desperate to explore the renaissance and age of discovery from paradox' point of view ... or at least mine

Well, I understand that you won't offer "free permanent access" but after playing for free in the night I decided to give Steam a chance and bought EU IV + DLCs ... and now I can't even continue my free play ... and it's Sunday ...
That is nothing to do with the free to play weekend - Steam ran out of keys for one DLC. We're working on that as I type.

It MAY BE that de-selecting the Conquest of Paradise DLC helps this; if not you can at least exit Steam and manually run eu4.exe which will certainly work until we can fix this.

I have turned off Keys for Conquest just like the base game so the issue should be resolved.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

Nope, deselecting CoP doesn't help - tried it after registering RP and WoN hours ago ...
But anyway, I could (and can) start it manually - who needs Steam ;) - thanks to Space_Owl.

Tried it again and no, it doesn't help. Steam simply doesn't allow me to start EUIV due immediately checking key-server ... which fails.

If it's possible - I assume it is - just send your customers a short message via Steam and show them how to find their local copy of eu4.exe (there was a Mac OS user minutes ago on steam asking) and it should be fine for all ... less stress for you guys and all the frustrated monarchs out there could enjoy their stack of doom, too.

I think it just takes a while for the change to filter through steam.
Anything else I do would presumably take the same time so ...
Not much I can do now but apologize for this inconvenience.
The steam guys will be in in less than 12 hours and should be able to get everything sorted out.

Just a last message: checked steam, keys are all available, game starts as intended ... and it's Monday afternoon instead of Tuesday ;)

In our experience it is better to be pessimistic and exceed expectation than optimistic and fall short, especially true when third parties are involved.
