Brief question, hopefully with a quick obvious explanation I'm missing.

I'm trying to buy machine parts on the world market. Market lists QTY as 1, current value ~194. I've set Buy < 230. I simply cannot get it to import a single digit, after months of waiting and watching, and there's plenty of money in my treasury. I've turned off computer management and hit 'confirm trade' sevel times -- no dice.

Any ideas?

It may show 1 as quantity on worlmarket but its more like 0.01 or something like that (Ive heard). And it gets snatched up everyday by those countries with higher prestige than ours. To get machine parts from the worldmarket: 1) get higher prestige (in relation to the other nations) 2) play in easier difficulty (I think then machine parts are more readily available) 3) wait till later game, from 1860-70 machine parts start to flood the market (again depending a bit on difficulty).

As a country like krakow the fastest way to get machine parts is probably from those industrial techs that give them...

Yeah, you need to get your prestige up if you intend to buy anything scarce on the world market. The computer sells the desired goods to countries in order of prestige, and you, li'l buddy, have a prestige of 1 ;)

If anything a higher dificulty would be better, since on hard and V hard the AI gets a bonus to its economy so the UK would be making more MPs. Below normal they take a penalty and will produce less.

Matt: Reseaching some Industrial techs will give you MPs and Interchangable parts will allow the precision works invention (can fire from 1850 onwards) which will let you build MP factories.
