Oh, society! Why must you chastisse so a lovestruck duke?

Just because he had to kill his brother, two nephews, father, and then you married your former step mother, who you also had to kill because she wasn't producing any kids...

WHY can't this poor duke of Lombardia marry the castillian countess he longs for so much?

I believe you can ... though it is very very hard to actually get her to accept such an offer. I have never managed it, but others have succeeded (or at aleast lied about it) :)

hhmm ..then maybe it is only a possiblity for land-less courtiers to be offered to rulers.

I think one of the reasons is that the CK engine can't really handle two rulers who are married.

Yeah you can do that and I have seen woman ruling a county and husband to be a king so even AI does it. Also yes its possible to marry countesses as it happened in my game where I gave some land to my rulers sister so later when he would be older I would get it back. Still some years later when I checked the character she had married some guy and had some kids. Didn't quite really like that at all. Still I later took that land back but still that just proofs that its possible to marry countesses but the chance is most likely quite small.

I suspect what happened then was that she married someone titleless.
What I was talking about was me, obviously with a title, marrying someone also with one.

My swedish babe produced 6 kids so far, all girls.

At least my Nephew is on-route to inherit Lombardie and Provence from another route.

How does semi-salic promegeniture work btw? I seriously don't understand it sometimes

Semi-salic primogeniture allows someone outside of your dynasty to inherit. So, uh, be careful with it.

Rulers can't marry rulers, but rulers can be married to rulers.

Female rulers will also never marry out of their own, but you can arrange a marriage between a courtier of your dynastie with a female ruler.

Yeah I know that much, but I don't quite understand the mechanics.

Why is my Nephew the heir to Provence when he's the son of the Duke's second daughter, being that the first is also married and has male kids?

With Semisalic Primogeniture, your oldest sister's oldest son (if I'm reading what you're saying correctly) should be the heir to you (with you having no sons of your own), unless those sons are actually from her husband's previous marriage? Or, like the previous poster stated, she somehow got several bastard sons. (Very unlikely tho it'd be.) Click on those son's character sheets, to verify they are her offspring and not bastards.

With Semisalic Consanquinity, i could see the 2nd oldest daughter's son being heir (all things being equal), if all grandsons are still children, none have titles, the strongest (usually in Strength stats), would be the heir.

Unless i too, misunderstand how Semisalic works. :)

Hm... perhaps that's it and I was mistaking the laws in my head.
So I should remember to give the kid a title sooner or later. I'm not the Duke of Provence btw.

Any idea on the reason behind this?

If a female marries she always moves to her husbands court unless she is a ruler herself and her husband to be isn't. A ruler can't leave its own court so when it happens the game crashes. You can try it yourself by starting as the duchy of Tuscany in 1066 and marry the eldest son of the duke of Austria.

This son will be given a count title by his father and then some weird things will happen and your game crashes.

They could probably change the code, though I have no idea how 'easy' that is, but then it would become exploitive. Since there are relatively a lot female rulers and children will always have the fathersname so the title will always go that them. They also could code this differently of course but that may then lead to other problems.

I didn't know that last tidbit. Once again, Veld's here to give us funny little facts that stick. Thanks! :D
