Can't log into Paradox account in EU4

I got the game for free last week and so did my friend so we wanted to play together, however, the multiplayer button didn't work and I couldn't log into my Paradox account. I tried to log in both while logged in and out of my Epic Games account but both times it just said "Failed to sign in. Please check your internet connection and try again." I'm pretty sure he got the same issue.
Any ideas why or how it can be fixed?

I've seen a few reports of this but have no solid reason for it yet, sorry. Do check all your firewalls allow eu4.exe through!

I just went to my account because I noticed the EU4 icon wasn't one of my badges and saw that my Epic Games account wasn't linked so I linked it manually from there and I think the problem might've been my Epic Games account not actually linking to my Paradox one even though a browser window opened up to link them because after that I could log into my Paradox account when I opened the game and could open the multiplayer menu.
Edit: Nevermind, now it doesn't work again, no idea why.

i own the game on steam i can open multiplayer on steam backend but if i launch with the nakama backend the multiplayer button is entirely unresponsive

Did you check your firewalls, as I suggested?

Is the problem logging into your Paradox account in the launcher within the game, or both?

This is just you having this issue, your friend does not? FYI my Epic edition of the game gets into MP just fine.

I checked my windows firewall and made sure that EU4 was allowed through to private networks and I still can't log into my account in the game (I am logged in in the Paradox launcher).
I asked my friend what his issue was again and he said that he can't load into the main menu (stuck in the loading screen).

Has to be allowed in Private AND Public.

Ok, I've allowed eu4.exe's access to private and public networks but I still (usually, but sometimes it kind of works, even before I allowed it to access networks, for some reason) can't log in.

Yes, logging into the launchers, both the EU4 and the HOI4 one, works fine. My issue is not being able to log in while in the main menu of EU4 with the map of Europe and the singleplayer and multiplayer buttons, etc.

Still smells of something blocking eu4.exe from our servers then. Can you try connecting this computer via a VPN, or even a mobile phone hotspot, and see if you get the same issue?

It functions normally and I am able to login with a VPN. However, the problem reappears when the VPN is turned off. What can be done in this case to login without the VPN?

Clearly there is a firewall somewhere blocking the login. It can be in Windows, your internet router/modem, or your ISP.

Tracking down which one is tricky! If your ISP provided your modem/router, you can get them to check into both.
