Can't load saved games

Everytime I try to load up my saved game i get the following error (it is differant for every save game but for an example I will use this one):

Error: () 'cag= Line=523642

It is really starting to wear on me since I can't play a game more than once

I am running WiF Platinum Edition (with a few minor event changes and graphical switches) on Doomsday Armaggedon.

Any help would be great!


p.s.

When I try to use my HOI editor and I click on a country tag for a nation that is playable it crashes :O

Assuming you mean the editor that comes with the game, that's your likely problem. Try reinstalling the game and not running the editor. (See the sticky thread at the top of this forum.)

If it doesn't happen in an unmodified game where you have not tried to use the editor you'll need to ask the mod creator(s).

I can't load my saved games too, for some strange reason. If I don't tinker with the scenarios, all goes well. But the moment I change something in any scenario file, I can't load a saved game that is played using the modified scenario files. Any ideas how to solve this?

If your problem is only with modding it isn't a tech support problem and should be in the mod forum. What exactly are you changing?

hmm...starting tech, mostly. I was narrowing the problems with the scenario files, and the techs were the first thing I modded. Bingo. Maybe modding something else would cause the error too, though.

Actually, I modded my techs before and it all went well. It was just one day when I couldn't load one of my saved games (one that was saved after a specific time. an older saved game that used the same scenario file could load fine though, just that it couldn't work when autosaved over). Subsequently I uninstalled and reinstalled Arma and still got the same problem, so I uninstalled Arma and tried DD instead. Although no error message popped up, the game would crash back to the desktop upon loading a modded-scenario saved game.

Since using the vanilla scenario files would not result in the same catatrophe, I concluded that tweaking the scenario file would somehow result in Arma/DD to corrupt my saved games. Patching didn't work either, so I'm still figuring out a way to circumvent or rectify this problem...

Plenty of people have modded scenario files without problems so that isn't the issue in itself. Either there's some issue with the specific change you made or how you made it; are you using the Paradox editor or notepad or some other editor?

I used both to no avail. I went directly to the notepad when I first modded, though.

I find it intriguing that I could use those files and the next day, I can't. Haha, haven't seen anything like it before...you, jdrou?

I've had no problems with savegames when modding scenario files (never used Paradox editor though). Is it only autosaves? Have you tested manual saving over an old file?

Yep, I did; same problem. It didn't happen to me until recently. And it only happens when I save games that use modded scenario files; vanilla files don't have the same problem

Are you running Vista and have the game installed in Program Files? Could be something related to UAC. Can't think of anything else that would cause problems only with overwriting existing files but not creating new saves.

Nope, i'm on XP. And it's not just over-rode saves; new saves are affected too.

Thank God XP has no UAC!

Sorry to say this but to DeathEater... this is a modding issue and not a tech support one)

To fix your issue and get back to a functioning game you should uninstall and reinstall.

Before modding save the game directory in a safe place so you can repair files that get damaged.
