The missions are always available. Turning dynamic missions off means your monarch won't force random stupid missions on you. You don't have to choose any missions at all.

How it works:

If you have missions turned on: In the game if you constantly have an active mission you will see no difference. It is only if you do not select a mission at the start of the game or if a mission is over and you have none active. After a while if no missions are selected the computer will assign you one. Note: you definatley do not want the computer to assign you one.

If you have missions turned off: You can select missions as and how you please, the only difference is if you decide to not use missions at all or let all your mission expire with no new one selected, the computer will not force one on you.

My recomendation turn them off and do not use them.

As to the specifics of this thread: If you selected to have them on when you started your scenario, then you cannot turn them off, when reloading. You can edit your save game to turn them off however.

If you always have a mission active the computer will not force you to do anything. And as there is always a "Keep provence X for 5 years mission" Where X is already a provence you own, it is far from impossible to do, in fact it is way to easy to do which is why it is practically a cheat to use missions. The extra VP points you get from them, (lets face it you are not going to select a mission you do not think you can win) can crush the AI's VP and since the AI does not do missions they do not have access to this source of VP's.

More questions

Great, well thanks for the detailed explanation. As ever it prompts more questions. Two to be precise:

Firstly I noted that someone said AI nations don't have missions, and yet when you surrender and look at VP totals some have gained VPs from missions. In one game Moskovy had gained 175 in a very short time. How is this?

Secondly,do many people play campaigns with the grand mission objective to win the game - is this any good?

Muscowy probably recived the VP from events not from taking missions.

To give an example they receive 200 vp's for turning into Russia and if they have made some event choices were they lost some Vp's It probably adds up.

I don'øt quite understand your second question, If you mean playing the grand campaign choosing to win by the scenario misson, then I don't think there is any for the Grand Campaign

Also, The Timurids can get 600 vps in 1450 (disintegration of the Empire), but that event also gets the horrible "+8 revolt risk for 5o years"... so you won'thave many opportunities to gain ANY VPs during that period :D
