Can't get military alliance with Scotland

Hi all

Brand new to this game and I need some advice. I'm playing as England. I am trying to vassalise Scotland. I have a good reputation with them soaring 195. I have a royal marriage with them. I have military access.

When I offer an alliance they decline. The prompt window says it is unlikely

What can I do to encourage an alliance? What factors decide if they will accept or not?

England is a very powerful empire in my game with prestige around +40

Dow them with subjugation Casus Belli. Even if you ally them, you cannot diplo-vassalize them if they have more than 3 provinces.

Check thier rivals and who they feel threatened by. If you are their rival the AI won't accept your alliance.

Alliances are based on.

Current
*Infamy
*Prestige
*If the person who you want an alliance with has a mission against you
*If their current allies dislike you.
*Your Trustworthiness (This should be displayed under the number rating as a sentence)
*If you currently hold any provinces that have Scottish cores.
*Who they feel threatened by (Probably you)
*Who are their current rivals (You again)

If they have 3 or more alliances, and you have too, then it is ussualy impossible to make aliances with them or with anyone.

Why not just conquer them? That's the best way to deal with the Scottish as England, you have the Cassus Belli.

Are you sure? I could swear i diplo-vassalized 4 province Tuscany in my Byz game?
