Can't get it past start

I just purchased the CK/HoI package. The game lets me get all the way up to the point when I push start, then it exits back to the desktop. I'm running XP and surpass all requirements to run the game. I downloaded the 1.04a patch but it didn't help. Is there anything I can do to get it to work? The Hearts of Iron does the same thing. I'm sure I just need to change a setting or something but I don't know what.

Have you tried it with patch 1.05 (the latest patch for CK) ?

Would this be one of the occasions where renaming the .avi folder would help?

I figured it out. I knew it had to be simple. I changed my screen resolution and now it's fine. Now all I have to do is learn how to play. Thanks!
