Ok, this issue has been driving me crazy! I’m new to the game and trying to play a Germanic tribe. My strategy was going to be focusing on population growth. In my territories when I click on the Pop tab to look at growth it shows 0% in the tooltip. This is very frustrating as the modifiers are well over this. I can’t figure out what is causing this. It’s like there is a hidden modifier that is reducing my pop growth percentage. This is happening in every territory - every future pop is stuck at 0% growth even though the visible modifiers are positive. I’ve read everything I can about the population growth modifiers and have not seen anything that explains this. Any ideas? Thanks!

In my case the biggest part (50%) comes from civilization. Then stability, years of stored food and other modifiers from events or omens also affect a bit.

Why is it 0% when your modifiers are .46%?

Does the migration modifier subtract from it?
Its not 0%.You see itss 0,47% Just add all the modefiers you see.. Always hold your mose over the bar to get more info. Just bring a screen with your modifiers. Then we can probably explain.

Ok, I see now. The top number in blue is not the total - so what is that line for?

The pace of the game was throwing me off too - I just did a test with the game speed on high and can see the growth of the pop, it is just very slow.

I think the blue number is the base number for freemen pops (i think thats currently 0,00 for all pop-types)

Anyway, focusing on organic population growth is quite inefficient, even when able to arrange for high food supply and civ level, there’s little else you can do to impact the growth. All these modifiers stack additively only.

Pop growth matters over time, but its linear and computed on the territory level, so the impact of it is only really meaningful when you hold a lot of land for a long time.

(Its an interesting enough system at its core, but could be significantly more dynamic given some tweaks in a patch or mod)

When you want growth: grainary, high civ. , high pop capacity. You can also take some tech. But i dont think its worth it.

The best way to grow population is to take slaves in war.

Also has the advantage of being more fun then sitting there waiting for the pop growth bar to grow greener.

some people just do not enjoy that gaming style. The picture I posted is from a game where I have only attacked one country and all the rest (half Spain) was diploannexations. So I totally understand @kgkoon .

If you are a germanic tribe I would migrate your pops to better land as the frigid climate doesn't help pop cap or growth while being in warmer more fertile land is always better. Peace, stored food, civ value, deities and events augment this but really pop growth is second to conquest for gaining pops.
