Hi.

I hope I'm posting this on the right place. I googled and searched for this issue, and it seems no one has posted anything on this yet.

I am very frustrated by this glitch/feature of the ship design, which basically forces you to use the most resent power source option. It does not allow me to use an older power source.

What happens is, while designing the ship, I choose the power source I want, design the ship and save the design. But when I click on the design I just saved, the power source is back to the most recent one (as if a had chosen it instead).

Firstly, this means I can't choose to use an older power source to keep the ship cheaper, even though I don't need that much power.

Second, and most importantly, it is killing my modded gameplay. I use the New Ship Classes + Extra Ship Components mods, and they both add new power sources for ships. However, the game thinks NSC's power source is more recent/higher tier (although it gives way less power) and doesn't let me use ESC's power source (which is the only one that has enough power for my ship design). It allows me to save the design with the power source I want, but when I click the design I just saved, the power source has changed back and the ship has a negative power output.

Any ideas?

The ship designer automatically replaces the sidebar components with more recent designs when you look at a design. It does not, however, save these changes, so if you manually select a lower-tech sidebar component you can still build ships with that component.

So, it means that, if I save a design with a lower tech component, even though the game changes it to the more advanced one when I view the design, the ship will be built with the component I chose/saved?

Yes. At least I suppose how that works, I never really checked it TBH.

Still I would kinda like an option to deactivate that "auto-upgrade", even though it's most of the time convenient it gets frustrating once you have dark-matter reactors that output waaaay too much power for many designs and require a rather large amount of dark matter..

Even better would it be, if it defaulted to the cheapest power source that just gets the job done, as the energy surplus bonus isn't that big anyway.

As others have stated, you have to save the change for it actually be taken into effect, so you can select which power source you want, but you have to remember to reset it everytime you do any change to the ship design.
