Can't change language to English

I just got the game. I don't like the German translation, therefore I would like to play it in English instead.
When I change the language to English in settings.txt, it just flips back as soon as I restart the game or go to a different menu in-game.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the game didn't help. I'm very annoyed.

Solved. I deleted settings.txt (may not even be necessary). Then, when steam opens the EU4 window from which to launch the game, I changed the language setting in the upper right corner to English. Easy enough. But begs the questions why there is a line for setting the language in settings.txt when changing that line doesn't work..

Because not every copy of eu4 is on steam and steam language settings overwrite settings.txt language.

It's because of new launcher. It changed how settings are being saved works. Before you could've just edit txt files

The language is now saved in pdx_settings.txt. If you really want to edit .txt files, you could do it there. Or you could use the section for the game settings in the launcher where you can change the game language independently of the launcher language.
