Alright, so no matter what I do I can't seem to become a Republic.
As background, I have the territory for the Duchies of Spoleto, Tuscany, and Pisa. I'm trying to become the Republic of Tuscany with the territory of Pisa as well, The territory of Spoleto can go.
So I give my heir a City, upgrade him to Lord Mayor, and give him all the cities in all those counties (I can't give him the counties themselves because 'Can't have more than one county owned by a republic' or something).
The problem is when I give him a Duchy, while he does become a Doge, I can't play as him.
At first I thought it was because my initial few attempts I just simply transferred Counts to be under him making him have some wacky government (because it was a Republic with counts under it) but that wasn't the case, however in this case I revoked all counts and all mayors in the cities and gave them to him and he had no counts when I made him a Republic.
What's really annoying is that I can however play as another Republic I released awhile ago. And that one has counts under it.
The way I've been doing this is:
(Capital is Firenze, Primary Title is Duke of Tuscany at the start of this)
Move Capital to Spoleto
Create Duchy of Spoleto and make it Primary Title
Create Duchy of Pisa.
Destroy Duchy of Tuscany (I've also tried the vice versa of never creating Duchy of Pisa, but I've noticed if Ii do that I end up not getting Pisa when I give the son the Republic)
Give son Cities in Firenze/Pisa/Urbino/Siena/Piombino.
Give Son a County (Can't give him more than one even with Primogeniture because of some weird thing that more than 13% of your counties can't be Republics)
Give Son the Duchy.
And then of course, get the error message when I try reloading.
So yeah, what am I doing wrong? As I think I'm missing an important step. Or I just have a weird glitch going on.
