Can't activate Steam key

I've recently bought Europa Universalis Rome Gold, but when I try to activate my key, I get the following message :

"Could not activate key: An unknown error occured when communicating with Steam."

What am I supposed to do ? :/

Are we talking about activating it here on the forum, or on steam proper?

Did you purchase it through steam, and if not where?

I'm talking about activating on Steam so I can play it. I bought it on Paradox, but when I log onto my Paradox account to manage, then activate the game in Steam (where I log on too), I have the error message. Thnaks
