Cannot get the game to work post-2.3, had two fresh installs

Greetings,

I'm having the same problem as a lot of other people here, which is that my game keeps crashing to desktop at random points (usually in specific points of the loading screen, other times when selecting nations or changing map overlay), and I attempted to have a fresh install of the game as suggested.

This worked for a while and I managed to launch the game without problems yesterday and played for a long time, but today when I tried to open the game, I once again kept crashing in the loading screen.

Attempted another fresh install but with no help. Attempted deleting the gfx folder, and I managed to move up a few notches in the loading progress before I crashed again.

Any idea what might be behind this? Can we expect there to be a fix of some sort (whether a patch or a guide how to get the game to work) any time soon?

EDIT: I obviously meant 2.3.0, not 2.0.3, could someone be so kind as to fix the title please?

Just to be sure, here's what I mean by a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

- start the game with no mods active and test

IF that doesn't help, Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/EU4/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ directory, post system.log . What version # and checksum do you see a/ in the launcher and b/ in the main game menu?

Yes, I've had two clean installs.

However, I seem to have found out how to get the game to work now, though it is a rather strange one.

It seems the game always crashes at "Loading Sounds" or "Processing Flags" if I close or minimise the Steam window. However, if I keep it open in the background the game works just fine. No clue what might be causing this peculiar behaviour but I have ran the game both ways dozens of times and when the Steam window is closed, there is always a crash at some point; when kept open the game always works...

Might it thus be a problem at Steam's end?

You mean you are exiting the Steam client entirely? And/or minimising it? That should certainly not cause any sort of crash, although we've have sporadic reports that any mouse clicks while it's loading can cause issues.

No, not shutting it down entirely, just minimising the client window by pressing the 'x' so as not to clutter my screen once the CK2 launcher has opened up. I always avoid clicking anything during loading screens, just to be safe.

OK then, let's try a reinstall with Steam refresh:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-CK2
- exit Steam
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2
- manually delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the /SteamApps/ folder
- manually run steam.exe and let it rebuild everything
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

- start the game with no mods active and test

If that doesn't help, can I get those files I asked for please?

edit:

game works again.. just takes ages to load(and thats new), so I guess my mouseclicking to see if it stopped working was the reason I quess.

So following the things Andrew says worked for me(including deleting steam manually except steam.exe and the steamapps folder)

had the same issue as Kazmir, and in this post I had put the DXdiag and other stuff. Hence the edit
