I can load up the game just fine, but when I try to join or create a game, it always takes 5-7 seconds then says "cannot connect to matchmaking server." I've tried disabling my firewall and opening port 25002. Are there any known solutions for this? I'd really like to be able to play this game.

You could try forwarding the port on the router to your machine (i am assuming that when you say opening port 25002, that this is only on the firewall on your computer)
some people have reported that this have fixed\improved the problem.

This did not work for me, however. Me and my friends (bought 4-pack) are completely unable to connect to each other, either through steam invite or the join online game option.
I've yet to see any official statement beyond "give us your dxdiag and server log (output_log.txt)" (check the FAQ: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...nown-Issues-and-possible-solutions&p=14947920).

Seems to be an issue with NAT and port mapping (I might be horrendously wrong about this though!), especially when everyone involved are behind routers (more than 1 person using an internet connect, a *very* common scenario).
Some of the issues have been discussed here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-Issues-(Can-t-connect-with-to-friends-games)

Sorry that I cannot help you :\

Added link to FAQ
