Is this thing normal? Kazakh does not want its cores?

Yes, happens all the time. Even worse when they lose favours because you won’t give them land but they have cores or vital interest land occupied by them.

Yes I know that allies often refuse provinces and that their trust decreases, but here? I declare a reconquest war in the name of my vassal, and they don't want their own cores? That rather strange... Well, at least I can return the provinces in the peace deal, but the cost is higher.

...I didn't know Kazakh was your vassal. I don't think this is WAD then.

Ever since patch 1.20, vassals have been able to refuse land that is occupied in their name. I have no idea why this became a thing, but it's incredibly dumb and Paradox said they were going to fix it ages ago.

AI is crazy stupid about suddenly refusing to accept vital interest land, including cores.

I've never seen this with a vassal though...

I just had this happen with my vassal Chagatai just yesterday lol. I declared a reconquest war against Buryat and was baffled when Chagatai didn't want their cores back. And then I found out there's also the bug of not being able to return occupation to myself. It was a problem because I "can't return Buryat's last province". Eventually though I can return Buryat's last province if I leave ceding the last province as the last click before the deal and Buryat was no more.

I really don't understand what could, in the code, make a nation refuse its cores.

I agree that this is a thing, but this is "more than a thing" if they refuse their cores!
[This is my first 1.21 game (last one was still 1.19)]

It's incredibly annoying and makes no sense. Especially when they have cores.
