Hi!
I bought a new computer today, and installed CK2. For some reason I cannot access my DLCs. When I type in my login information and press "login" nothing happens. The game freezes for about 1 sec, and then nothing happens at all. I've tried restaring the game several times, and I've turned of my firewalls, still the same problem.

Could it be that I am currently logged into CK2 at two other computers (my laptop, and my GFs comp)? Is there a limit to how many logins I can have at the same time?

Thanks!

Why are you logged in on the other computers in the first place ?
You only need to do this to download the DLCs so i see no reason.
No idea if there are limited logins with GG.
Why don't you just log off then yourself and see if it works ?

If the problems persists it might be you have installed CK2 in 'program files' or such and/or the security settings are preventing you from connecting.
Just guessing.

Also, it's rather a tech support issue and as such should be posted there. Guys like me participate there as well, not just the official support.
NO need to repost there though, it might get moved anyway.

Because I like to be able to get new DLC no matter where I am. :)

I tried logging out fron GG on my laptop, nothing happened. Turned off my antivirus and firewall, still the same problem. Moved the game from "program files", still the same problem...

Did you actually install CK2 from GG, or simply copy the files across? If the latter try doing the former.

Also you can in fact simply copy the DLC files across, they should work fine.

He means if you installed it just once and then simply copied the game folder to the other computers, you should try installing it on these instead..i assume.
Does it work on one of these ?

I hope you sense this is an ambivalent issue. ;)

Might also work if you copy Ck2s' mydocuments folder into the according location at these PCs.
But installing instead of copying could work better.
Probably GG misses some registry entry or such.

As I say, you can simply copy the DLC files from the working machine to the problem one, using a USB stick for instance.

As you said you logged in on your gfs' comp, i assume its not your password.

Have you updated your game to 1.111 ?
I suppose the launcher is independent from the patches, but do it anyway before trying to download the DLCs.

Some security settings problem on a new Windows 7/8 ?
So could it be that its not going through the firewall on your new PC ? Just allow CK2 in your firewall (give permission in your firewall settings; don't just turn it off; try it), might be that.
If in doubt give permission in your antivirus program as well.
Also run CK2 as administrator.

So the core issue seems to be you can't log into GamersGate's store from the game on one machine, is that right? What about their website store, can you log into that?

Yes. I bought my computer on friday, and almost immideatly downloaded the game from GG. I could, and can, log in to their website, but I can't log in the ingame store.

As you said you logged in on your gfs' comp, i assume its not your password.

If in doubt give permission in your antivirus program as well.
Also run CK2 as administrator.

I did try turning the firewall and av program off, and running the game as admin, still the same problem.

What I have tried:
Logging out of the game from my old laptop computer
Changing the password
Turning of my Firewall
Turning of my AV
Patching
Starting the game as admin.

The problem still remains:
I type in my login info, and nothing happens. I've even tried typing in the wrong info just to see the reaction, which was the same (nothing),

I can only speculate here.
First as i suggested before, give CK2 permissions to connect and have outgoing traffic in your Windows Firewall settings and try that. It matters, as turning off the firewall isn't the same.
Second check your Windows security settings, i suspect they are on very high, though that might not matter. I thought of the file and printer permissions, but that might be bollocks on my part.
Third, do you have Windows Security Essentials ?

Have you patched the game already before trying these different listed options ?
It's important as in much earlier version there were problems with long passwords and special characters, but thats been solved long ago.

Bah, it might be something more obvious, but i can't think of it.
Just glad that AndrewT is here for answers and not me.:laugh:

So it shows 1.111 MLYP on the main game menu?

I don't know those particular firewalls, have you tried googling for how to disable them, or (as Aardvark was saying) how to set them to allow applications (steam.exe, ck2.exe and ck2game.exe) through specifically.

It seesm strange as you are the first to report such an issue if i remember correctly after the updates on the launcher.

So you are not logged in anywhere else when you try to login on your computer
You got a new comp with Win7 or 8
You did all updates for your Windows OS
You turned off both AVs in one of your attempts

Fine, then lets proceed
(I'm giving hints based on Win7, if you go Win8 i dont know what it's like, i got it in german, so i do not exactly quote the naming)

Go via 'start'-control panel-Sytem and Security -Firewall- (something like) Give programs permission in the windows firewall (on the left)-change settings- add program
= add the ck2game.exe in the game folder........ and maybe even ck2.exe and steam.exe as AndrewT suggests

If you don't find something, try Windows Help or search it on the net
Again, it was only a suggestion. It was necessary in very early versions, trying won't hurt

Next:
You shouldn't have more than one AV program running. They tend to collide.
What is AVF ? Is that AVG actually ?

next:
I'm sorry, i ment not Windows security, but internet security settings. So Control panel again- Internet options- security (tab) - There you see what its set at. If its at very high just set it to medium
Just another wild guess though......

next:
Give permissions in your AVs
As i dont know yours, look in their settings.

I can't even find it in mine right now, since some [edit: include random swearwords] at AVAST changed the GUI in a way that you don't find anything anymore after the last update, just like in Win7.
Sorry for the offtopic rant........

I somehow feel that might not be it, but again trying can't hurt.
Oh and please respond to AndrewTs questions, as he's the guy in charge here. I'm just another forum member and feel a bit silly now for not knowing whats the reason for your problem.

@AndrewT The game and the launcher started, but nevertheless could it have anything to do with NET Framework or Visual c++ missing ? Just thinking, as its a new comp.

Should try that.

I am logged in to my GFs comp aswell, but since I logged in to her comp at the same time as I was logged in to my laptop, that shouldn't be the problem...

Did this now. Nothing new happened...

Turned them both off, still the same problem. Even tried redownloading and installing the game again. Still, the same problem....

Now did you also check the Windows internet security setting ?

Also as i'm not sure i understood correctly, did you log in on two other computers than your new laptop one an it worked for these or did you effectively only log in at two?
If so, we know at least that it has nothing to do with being logged in on more than one computer at the same time.
I hope you are not logged in all the time, as you don't need to. It's just for download really.

So i just post from a FAQ at GGs Knowledge Base concering download problems:

You probably got some kind of security blocking.

1. Disable or change settings for Antivirus, Firewalls, ZoneAlarm, proxys etc.

2. For routers, uncheck "Enable SPI"(or similar) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stateful_Packet_Inspection

3. Proxy or not. If you are at home and do not know what a proxy is, then you probably dont have a problem with your proxy.

If you download or install from/at your work, university, etc, a download service like GamersGate may be blocked by the local IT department and there is nothing you or GamersGate can do about that.

Try the second suggestion to disable SPI on your router if you got one.

Apart from that i'm at a loss here. Maybe AndrewT will have an idea though.

Yes, I did.
(My laptop is my old one). I first logged in to my laptop (about a year or something ago), then on my GFs this summer and, last week, I tried to log in to my new PC. It worked fine on the first two computers. I have now logged out of my laptop, but the problem on my new PC still remains.

I am, for ease, basically, since I never know where I am when there's new DLCs out...

So i just post from a FAQ at GGs Knowledge Base concering download problems:

Are you telling me that these three computers don't get shut down and just run for month ?
That you logged into GamersGate on all three for several weeks or months and never logged out ? :eek:hmy:

You can access the internet with the same computer on which you can't get logged in the ingame store of CK2 , right ? And you also can log in on this comp to the Gamersgate homepage ?

How do I do that...?

Sorry.

AndrewT !! :)
Your turn.

I hand this over, as i didn't play around with routers and stuff for quite a while.

edit:

What kind of router have you got ? I mean what's the brand name of it ?
For NETGEAR there is a simple explanation here http://www.ehow.com/how_6898516_disable-spi-firewall-netgear.html (was the first hit actually when i searched it)
