There is surprisingly little about this trait in the wiki. I have been reading bits and pieces about it everywhere, apparently there are a ton of benefits associated to the trait, too.

Having a bunch of gluttons in my court when I secluded myself was very helpful, but I also heard it was possible to eat prisoners or steal traits by eating the right sort of people. I don't seem to have the option to eat prisoners, however. Can anyone tell me how this works and what Cannibal can do?

Lock yourself in the castle, and play with rats, then some poor guys will steal the food.
You have a choice to punish him/her and you are horrible scary hungry.
So, you will earn a new trait with new selection to excu the prisoner.
And it will cause some bad result, food posion? I got the vomiting.
The meat is not such fresh.

Thanks, but I don't think you understood my question. My character is already a cannibal, but I don't have the option to eat prisoners. Plus I would like to know how trait stealing works.

For the option to eat a prisoner to show you appear to need Reaper's Due, not be a prisoner, be an adult, not be incapable and have cannibal or possessed/lunatic.

The target apparently has to be a prisoner over the age of 12 and not have diplomatic_immunity. (That I'm not sure one. My guess would be something that would make them immune to hostile actions.)

It also looks like there is a 10% chance of absorbing a trait from them, and that it requires supernatural events to be on.

Code:
           from_potential = {
            has_dlc = "Reapers"
            is_playable = yes
            is_adult = yes
            prisoner = no
            NOT = { trait = incapable }
            OR = {

                graphical_culture = dragongfx
            }
        }

        potential = {
            host = { character = FROM }
            prisoner = yes
            age = 12
        }

That's really strange. I have all DLCs except Holy Fury, I have them all enabled. Could this be because I have turned off Absurd and Supernatural events? I really can't think of any other reason. I have checked with numerous prisoners of all ages and religions - I never have the option. I guess they nerfed Cannibalism to the survival situation of the seclusion events and stripped it of all supernatural implications in "realistic mode"?

The only thing I saw about Supernatural events was that it sets the "Absorb trait" chance to 0 if it is on. I saw nothing about the absurd ones, though something elsewhere might be filtering it. That or it thinks everyone has diplomatic immunity or something.

I think absorption of traits from cannibalism is based on supernatural events turned on, much like Indian reincarnation system. And even then it is rare.

Is there a hidden cooldown or some modifier that is affecting OP?

There is surprisingly little about this trait in the wiki.

The CK2 wiki, like most other Paradox wikis (maybe except HoI4 wiki), are all heavily outdated in a lot of pages.
