I don't know how this is working in NA/SA/etc but it is currently one of the most awful experiences I've had in EUIV in Australia. The path-finding is buggy and the ships will so 15 sea zones east only to come back all 15 to get 1 zone then head east again. There's no way I can see to just do mainland Australia without getting all the islands. It's a massive delay to eastern countries who can't afford a delay when England/Portugal/Spain/France will be incoming. Please split this up into multiple regions or at least let us recall the ship home.
You can't even split the fleet to get it back because you get 50% attrition.
