It would be nice to be able to "bring the river" into the heart of the city or industrial area.

For industry: You could have your "port" in the heart of the industrial area, and "seagoing barges" shipping to external ports. Would cut down on road traffic certainly?

For tourism: You could mimic Amsterdam, by having a small area of your city with a picturesque mix of small streets and canals, which would certainly attract the tourists?

Would it be a big job to be able to place a canal much like a road and hook it up to the water system or river or sea?

yeah I'm trying a way (see the above post) but ideally what you're asking for would be better, i just don't have the knowledge to do it. If the author of Traffic++ could figure out how to change the mesh and height of road types, canals could become a new road type and could be drawn. my way would be slightly more cumbersome - placing assets in a modular formation to form canals

That would indeed make it easier to form them but can you asing a style to them too then?
