This is 2 times in a row. Once in Suez and now in Panama. In Suez, a mysterious AI Italian invasion force maintained complete invisibility to my CV group in the eastern med. Boom drops a mtn inf on Suez and my Canadian convoy on a mission to pass through goes blub blub with 100k troops and tanks. Now in Panama, after finding a marine div aiding my territorial was not enough to hold off a div of partisans my 50k troop en route to take it back mysteriously go blub blub. What a fine waste of a couple days time. I want to like this game so bad. I'm an old world in flames player and for strategic level there's not much. Pewrhaps someone would be so kind as to inform me at macgregor2150@gmail.com when this bug is fixed .

Please provide more details on the problem (emotional comments usually are not very helpful in identifying the issue) - How to report bugs.
As a minimum information - what's the game version you're playing and the mod? We did some changes to provinces in canal zones in DH Full 1.04, so make sure you're on that patch version if you play Darkest Hour Full.

Where were vanishing fleets located when the province was taken from you - into the canal sea province or into the port of the lost land province?

A hint - important provinces like Suez and Panama should always be garrisoned, especially when at war. It is also a good idea to keep an unit in every beach province you control to prevent surprising invasions.

Unfortunately it's the emotions that inspire the effort to seek a fix. I'm playing 1.04 with the Grand Campaign mod. It's like the game diverts some empty units back to port, and the rest it diverts to the bottom. It appears the canal falls before the units have entered. They hang around the entrance for maybe a day and then seem to vanish.

As I don't have that mod I had to use Darkest Hour Full to check how this works. Here's what happened according to your report and my investigation.
In pre-1.04 patches, any fleets in ports of canal controlling provinces remained blocked into these ports when the province is captured by an enemy country. In 1.04 this bug is fixed and such fleets (including all boarded land units) are now destroyed (no retreat possible; similar to what happens to air units when their airbase province is captured or when land units are surrounded and defeated).
What I found based on your report is not a bug in the engine (or in the DH Full map) as it works as it is designed and expected to be.
To avoid such unfortunate events in your future games I would recommend you again to have these provinces protected by land troops all the time.
