There are some shots in this replay of the generic tree from the Finland gameplay with Jakob. I think Canada is getting same focus tree as all other minors for now.

At around 5:18 in you can see one shot of it.

I think as Canada try to build a small / medium sized army, but one that is very infantry based and good infantry at that. I dont really know what approach i would use in HOI4, but in HOI3 in most games i played the UK was losing the North Africa conflict, and so i always sent my Canadian Expeditionary Force to Egypt to stem the tide and then help take Libya and Tunisia. Canada also had the 5th largest navy after the war IRL, so maybe build up a good navy, maybe good escorts like DD's and CL's to protect shipping in your part of the Atlantic.

Canada functioned largely as an appendage of Britain and put a remarkable percentage of its adults in uniform, but did so with a modest land forces commitment by focusing on aviation, naval and logistics support. Any Canadian focus tree or array of events has to consider the political factors against sending a large ground force overseas.

Folloiwing is my canned summary of Canada's role that I prepared when thinking of a HOI3 Canadian AAR (not planning to do one). Feel free to recycle.

1. CANADA’S HISTORICAL ROLE IN WW2 (.Background)

Historically, initial Canadian priorities were on Canadian and hemispheric defense (extending to British possessions in North America and the Caribbean and to collaboration with the US. Virtually unarmed, Canada quickly ordered formation of one division for overseas (sent in Jan 1940) and one for domestic defense. WW1 memories in mind, political concerns over high casualties and opposition to conscription for overseas service led PM King to focus plans on a volunteer-driven expansion of the tiny RCN and RCAF that eventually became enormous after the fall of France. The RCN ended the war as the world';s 3rd largest navy with 470 ships (bearing an increasing proportion of the Battle of the Atlantic against U-Boats as well as supporting landings in the Med and France) and the RCAF providing many pilots and an enormous pilot training program for the Commonwealth. The ground troops overseas also increased to 5 divisions in Britain (2 armored). During the war, almost 10% of the Canadian population saw terms of service in the military. Of 42,000 Canadian military deaths, the most were in the army but the RCN lost 2,000 and the RCAF 17,000, 10,000 of those in Canadian units in UK Bomber Command against Germany.

Canada’s commitments were focused on the Atlantic, but the most exotic deployment was one of a couple battalions lost at Hong Kong in 1941. Commitment to the Pacific might work out differently in game. Canada’s contribution of food, materials, and equipment was enormous as well and might be represented by lend lease in game, but Canadian players will find their IC constrained enough to make lend-lease unattractive.

Typically in Hoi3 I would build up my industry as per normal then create a large navy, and a modest ground force capable of striking smaller fronts, like north Africa, Sicily, or island hoping in the pacific depending on how I want to organize. Once got puppet master as Canada after Italy, and japan among others became my puppets after surrendering. Sicily became the 11th province of Canada

One could say Canada and South Africa were in similar relatively safe remote locations, while New Zealand might hope to avoid notice on the underside of the globe, but Australia is more directly positioned in the path of a sweep south from the East Indies or a maritime power in the Indian Ocean. It is fun to play though. The key decision is whether to focus on home defense against invasion (army and naval air focus) or duty to the Empire, which means shipping and escorting some divisions overseas to stop the Axis of Evil far from home shores. That is the more fun, by the way., and can manage and justify a light carrier to support a force in the Mideast (just don't go anywhere near the Japanese).

A Commonwealth countries common focus tree seems a great idea.

Maybe this is the path for Paradox for next HOI4 developments, make a few focus trees shared by a bunch of similar countries.

At least some part of it, especially the relation with the UK (and maybe the US).
