Been gunning for the achievement this game. Defeated one awakened empire a while back, and then took all the key worlds of the other. I've been cruising around mopping up their colonies to finalize my victory when I hit 100% war exhaustion. Pictured: my allied army sieging their last remaining planet as the forced peace counter hit zero. I was maybe another month out from total victory, but of course they forced peace immediately.

Is it still possible to get the achievement if I re-declare war after the treaty expires? If not then, as you can imaging, I will be royally pissed. I think Paradox need to tweak how "forced peace" works, because at the moment it doesn't make a whole lot of sense in situations like this. Could we at least have it so that forced peace does not trigger while there is an active planetary invasion occurring?

With regards to the achievement eligibility; I am the original leader of the non-aligned league federation. The other awakened empire was defeated by me previously, and the awakened empire has had all of their other assets conquered aside from this one planet.

The achievement code is completely unhelpful for this. You can read the event chain for War in Heaven here.

I don't see any event chain in the instance there's a status quo peace. I'm not even sure it's possible. It looks like the War in Heaven continues indefinitely until one side is wiped out.

Well, it's definitely possible, because as I say above, it just happened. I reached 100% war exhaustion and after two years the AE forced status quo. I got a dialogue saying that an "uneasy peace" had been declared and that the War in Heaven was over.

Which makes me think I missed out on the achievement, in which case I will be peeved, but then for all I know I can still get it if I finish wiping them out later.

I think it won't work. Iirc, the achievement involves winning the special War in Heaven war that occurs when you head up the formation of the nonaligned powers. When this happens, the AE will declare war on you via event. You can't just manually declare Containment War on them both, it has to be the special War in Heaven war.

(And iirc, there's a bug where if one of the AE don't hate you you'll only get one of them declaring Domination war on you - this happens when the -200 We Hate You For Being Nonaligned gets applied to one AE twice, and none for the other).

So I don't think it'd work. If you're forced to white peace out of the War in Heaven, then the next war you declare to contain the AE won't actually be THE War in Heaven, so it won't count.

I'm not so certain. It looks like the only event that clears the war_in_heaven_ongoing flag and activates the war_in_heaven_ended flag is when both awakened empires no longer exist. When that happens, it triggers the last_best_hope flag for the leader of the non-aligned league. So in theory I think the achievement can be done over multiple wars.
