I see. Would you say that CS is now worth it? Has the AI issues and balance people were complaining about after launch been fixed by now?
Not worth it, but I actually didn't play it without CS. Probably you will have to buy it because of the pay wall. They completely messed the game up, so it would be extremely laborious to list all the bad changes, but those of the pay-wall, I believe, are the inability to get more buildings slots, and the inability of changing the government rank (you need it because they removed unique buildings).

Even if you have CS like me, you will notice the shameful amount of times the game will crash. Yeah, EU4 was too prone to crashes since v1, but with 1.13, it is simply disgusting. I get at least 2 crashes every 1 hour of playing. BTW, they might have tried to "improve" it by making the crashes "silent", so since 1.13 they game will simply close without any notice; if that was actually on purpose, my honest well-done to that developer.

That said there are one or two good stuff, like being able to demand non occupied provinces, and asking your vassals to convert religion.

I'd say save your money and stick to 1.11.

Sorry for not being that detailed, but still enduring my testing 1.13 campaign.

My game occasionally crashes after exiting an ironman game, and has for quite a long time. Actual in-game crashes are extremely rare though...maybe 1 per 100 hours in v1.12, Beta v1.12, and v1.13.

What system are you running?

Windows 8.1, i7 870, 8GBRAM, GTX 460

And I played or am playing 30 Steam other games, and never had any crashes, except for L4D and those were systematic crashes and was solved reinstalling.

EU4 crashes are mostly random, but I could identify a pseudo-pattern when clicking on a trade node and then on another.

1 per 100 hours? That sounds like an exaggeration. In the best scenario, I had at least 1 crash in 28 hours, if playing 7 hours a week.

I've had 1-2 crashes (one I couldn't tell if crash or windows update auto-restart being a #7#@1!!) since v1.12 came out and play significantly more than 7 hours a week. If it was even as bad as 1 crash in 28 hours that would be entirely shrug-worthy, as it takes all of 2 minutes to start up the game.

A crash every hour though would be far too annoying to deal with.

Increasing development is only something you want to do when you're capped on monarch points. And besides there are already ways to spend MP when you're capped; convert cultures with DIP, roll generals with MIL, and... well who ever gets ADM capped? It doesn't impact the game anywhere near as much as say, National Focus which was in the AoW DLC.

Colonizers have excess ADM points. Plus not everyone develops only when at the limit. I sometimes do it when I want to accept a culture (for tax purposes) or when I don't have any ideas open and am more than about 6 years ahead on tech. You can develop a lot if you tech only once you get to 1 neighbor bonus and not ahead of time, especially if you get economic ideas (which are very nice for colonizers to reduce inflation from treasure fleets).

In my opinion these are the pros and cons of the recent updates: (playing without the DLC)
Pros:Improved fort system adds a lot of new depth and strategy to wars
limited buildings with buildings receiving a huge buff adds strategy to building stuff
AI improved (I admit it was horrible at first and is still pretty bad, but before CS it just started carpet sieging and wouldn't stop until you had beaten each individual stack one at a time, so seeing as that doesn't happen anymore I'd say it's improved)

Cons:Americas ahistorically nerfed... a lot
Edit:the forts do need some fine tuning though
I think it's an improvement overall

Development is also very useful if you're playing a minor with little avenues for expansion at the start of the game, it can give you the edge you need in force limits and income at the cost of postponing a couple of ADM and DIP levels for a few years.

Sorry, but 1.13 is completely playable and fun without CS.

Since CS was released, I have played Crimea, Poland, Tunis, Venice, Zazzau, Siak, Tlaxcala, Xiu, Malwa, Andhra, Bengal, Uzbek and Chagatai. All with 1.12, 1.13 beta or 1.13 and no CS for any of them. In fact i was gifted CS for my birthday but have decided not to redeem it until i finish my Chagatai game.

The lack of development doesn't affect gameplay at all since no one can develop, so its like 1.11. The forts work fine. The buildings work fine and to be honest i rarely fill even the one slot per province in most places since it is simply too tedious and not necessary unless you want to play 100% optimally.

Lack of subject interactions affects to my knowledge two nations in total: Denmark and Oirat, with historical rival subjects that are hard to control without them. Everyone else is fine, in that it was fine in 1.11 and its the same with 1.13 no CS.

I got several achievements, including Sun Never Sets On The Indian Empire which is at least halfway challenging. I lost one game (Zassau) and did very well on nearly everyone else.

I will note i did not play protestant, theocracy, buddhist or HRE since i didnt want to waste a game playing them without the changes. But these changes were for the most part for flavour and i dont feel they would reduce any nation to unplayable. I could be wrong.

So that is my opinion and my experience regarding this subject in support of my opinion.

If you disagree i would be happy to read your rebuttal, just make sure to include how many games you have played in 1.12 or 1.13 without CS before you call me a fanboy or claim CS is a paywall.
