Can you make a Tributary a vassal?

I'm fairly sure I've made allies into vassals or at the very least Dynastic Marriages into vassals, but I'm wondering, after you make a nation a Tributary, can you later make that country a vassal?

Just trying to plan my take over of Indonesia as Japan. If I can make tributaries -> vassals and then diploannex them at a later date, I'm peachy. If not, I need to figure out another way to make those smaller island nations vassals.

AFAIK, not directly. The tributary has to break first and "offer vassalization" is very tough to do for anything greater than a OPM and I think you get a relations hit when you break as well. So if you're planning on taking Indonesia don't make the nations there tributaries.

You could also modify tributaries in the subjects txt file to allow them to be integratable.

A good way to find out... is to hover mouse over offer vassalization... If the modifier is -1000 for being tributary, you are not allowed... Or if there is an x over being tributary...

can run it by my group to see if those familiar with the area have a more direct answer if anyone else can come with it

You can't. There's -1000 because they're already your subject.
