Hi,

I've got quite a big problem. So there is a very powerful empire in my federation and I cannot kick it as none of the other empires want to (they are AI as well) . The problem is that this empire doesn't use the federal fleets well and doesn't seem to want to participate in wars (they vote yes and then do nothing). Is there a way that I can forceably remove them from my federation on ironman mode? I doubt there is but anything would help.

No, you cannot use the console in ironman mode, that is the point. I'm not saying it isn't possible to do what you ask, but it will require some minor save game editing, use of the console, and then some more minor save game editing. I can walk you through it if you want to go that far.

Also, my advice is to never play ironman for at least 6 months after any major Stellaris expansion.

That's a bit like asking "I'm America and Germany won't join in my wars. Can I kick them from the UN?"

It's a federation, and majority decisions rule - if most of the federation want to keep them, they aren't going to be removed just because you want to do so. If this *could* be done, then the AI would be able to unilaterally remove you if one empire decided it doesn't like you.

*You* can leave and start a new federation if you can find anyone free and willing to do so, but you can't unilaterally remove another federation member because they aren't coming in on wars (or not noticably - they might be having pathing issues or just evaluating their fleet as too small to help with the war... or they're holding back in case they're attacked. Assuming of course the AI is making sensible decisions, and hasn't become stuck.)

The other thing is that if you kick them out, they could well decided to come for you - and if they're "very powerful" they could potentially be a problem. If they're in a federation with you they're at least temporarily neutered.

I suppose you could try to get them to quit by destroying relations with them and see if they'll leave because they're in a federation with someone they hate - but this could cause problems with the other members if your efforts harm relations with them as well.

Or, you know, you could use the console to take control of them, make them leave the federation, and then give a -200 opinion penalty to the other federation members so they won't be accepted back.

I also don't get how they are so much more powerful than you that you aren't the federation leader. 2.2 removed the rotating federation leader and locked it to the strongest. Just become the strongest and you will seize control of the federation fleet. The AI is, well, rather special in 2.2. It shouldn't be that hard.

"Ironman".

And yeah, wanting to kick the federation leader (even if it is swapping between you) is a bit perverse conceptually as a game concern.
If you could just unilaterally kick the strongest member of the faction (or the second strongest) then what's the point of having federations? You'd get booted if you ever upset one strong member of the federation, and they'd collapse really easily.

You can edit your game out of and into ironman in about 30 seconds. It doesn't even affect achievements.

This is a game where you can commit galactic genocide. I am comfortable with kicking an empire out of a federation. I don't care about the concept. I don't care how it would work in real life. This is a game and everyone gets to play it the way they want to. The OP asked a question and I answered it with the offer of giving a step by step walkthrough of how to do what they asked.

Then why have anyone but the player EVER be Federation leader if they are in one?

You're missing the point. The OP gets to choose how they consume the product they bought. If that makes you uncomfortable that's on you, but try to answer threads constructively instead of complaining that someone wants to do things differently than you do.

AI is always terrible at using fleets. That they agreed to the war does not mater. The Diplomatic and Admiral AI are not actually related.
I mean if we are lucky, the Admiral AI will prefer Systems with a Claims so it immitates some degree of Strategic awareness. Otherwise it just goes for whatever is hostile.

Getting hte best out of a Federation, requires a player ot be the leader (to command the fleet).
In 2.2 Federation Leadership is no longer rotating. That means you can now take it by becomming stronger.
That is the way you are supposed to use the Federation to maximum effect, when in Federation with AI's.

You can edit your game out of and into ironman in about 30 seconds. It doesn't even affect achievements.
Even if you could kick him via console cheats, the others would just try to reinvite him.
Or at worst, someone else becomes the leader.

A lot of diplomatic playstyles don't lead to you getting your hands on a lot of planets. If he's playing on a high difficulty level and the number 1 federation power is twice his size...

Megastructures. Habitats. Ecumenopolis. Even changing to a Megacorp playstyle.

Playing tall was practically invented for this case.

Does the OP have DLC? Didn't think to check.

OK, looks like he does. So, yeah, he should be beating any AI.... eventually.

Not if you use the console to modify the AI empire's opinions of each other.

At this point why even bother playing the game?
You might as well save game edit and use the console to just give you a victory.

Editing the game to remove what sounds like the federation leader and alter everyone's opinions of them so they don't get invited back in isn't really playing the game anymore.

Sure, you can edit the game all you want to get any result - but you *could* equally give yourself a set of modifiers so you have (effectively) infinite resources, starbase cap, naval cap, and admin cap; and +2000 relations with everyone; not to mention all your ships doing 10x as much damage and not taking any damage in return. Save editing and so on can do anything you want, but you have to ask at what point are you just removing game obstacles because you don't (or can't) beat them within the context of the game rules?
