I've searched the forums and found a couple of old threads but no answers to this question.

I know this is possible, because my default colors changed with one of the mods I am running.

I would like to set my 9 default colors to choose from so I am not constantly having to play with the sliders. Can this be done in game, or does this require modding?

Thanks for any help.

The only in-game way to get custom colors for your armies is to use the color sliders. It only takes a couple seconds to mess with though, so I don't really see the problem.

They are called COMMANDGROUP_PRESET_COLORS_HSV in common/defines/00_graphics.lua:898

How do I change the colors from here? Was expecting RGB values but I have no idea what those mean.

HSV = hue, saturation, value

HSL and HSV are both cylindrical geometries (fig. 2), with hue, their angular dimension, starting at the red primary at 0°, passing through the green primary at 120° and the blue primary at 240°, and then wrapping back to red at 360°. In each geometry, the central vertical axis comprises the neutral, achromatic, or gray colors ranging, from top to bottom, white at lightness 1 (value 1) to black at lightness 0 (value 0).

red (ff0000) should be 0 ,1 ,1
half green (008000 ) should be 120/360, 1, 0.5
white: x,0,1, e.g. 0,0,1
black: x,x,0, e.g. 0,0,0

I think if you select colors in Microsoft Paint, you can also see this numbers.

edit: Been tinkering with this for hours now and still can't come up with a satisfactory color combination. Any recommendations perhaps?

What tilts me is that the default color palette from which I can choose, does not contain the colors the game chooses for new created Armys.

You removed all Soldiers from an Army? Never gonna get that color again... (unless you create 10 new armies until the color shows up again)

That gets me, too. Sometimes the game chooses a color that is just right. It looks like it belongs with the other colors on the map, is distinct without taking over, but I cannot recreate it.

Those are indeed other colors. They are defined in gfx/maparrows/maparrows.txt.

I once reported a bug about the same colors being reused after reloading, which is how I discovered these different definitions.

As long as I can set some good colors to apply in my 9 slots, I am OK with it. Trying to recreate colors with the sliders over and over was absolutely killing me. On my 4k monitor the entire color panel is pretty small.
