I hate landing my heirs, mainly because the AI does really stupid things, like get in wars they can't possibly win, give really stupid education to their own heirs, etc. Now there's a fresh new (to me, anyway) hell: the AI maiming themselves.
So with African pagan (not sure if this is applicable to other religions with ancestor worship) you get options of things you want your ancestors to help you with (wisdom, friendship, fighting, etc.) then you get an option of what you're going to sacrifice to get that boon: body part, prisoner, or gold. Almost invariably my close kin, particularly children, will pick the body part option (or at least I think so, it doesn't seem to come from any battles as I have them as commanders but usually keep them out of any real fights).
