I smell lying

Well obviously there is some slowdown.. I mean there is so much going on.. but it is not like it effects you in any way. It is completely benign to the gameplay experience and not a big issue at all. It is not only unrealistic not to expect some slow down, it is also naive in many ways.

This thread reminds me of that old Bladerunner quote (theatrical release for those nerds paying attention) "You were made as well as we could make you" / "I want more life, fucker"

The slowdown is not an issue, but it is noticeable, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Is the same problem that PDX have in Sword of the stars 2 you can´t play in a big 1000k stars because lag is massive.

Edit, nop is worst even in 400 starts late game is mega slow.

At the end of the game I used two fleets of 10/20/40/80 to attack a fallen empire. It felt like my fleets were sending me postcards with drawings of how the battles was progressing.

I have two Fallen Empire looking cross at me, and the entire rest of the galaxy hates my guts and is ready to jump on me at a moment's notice (well, being a genocidal imperialist does have its downsides...).
But my true, real foe, the one which is making me giving up my game, is the slowdown of the game.

Early game is super-fluid, super-fast, every control respond instantaneously, days goes by smoothly.
Late game is an atrocious slog, with the UI unresponsive, the game freezing for several seconds each time a new month happens, the days crawling at a snail space and the game speed crashing down.

That's with a 400 star galaxy and an i7-920 quadcores at 3GHz.
I'm near 150 colonies in a 1000 star galaxy, with initial 30 empires. Every Time a ship moves is like a succession of pictures, like a mini pause every second. Combats of big fleets are not very fun to watch because of this "pauses" that happen everytime, and weaponds like missiles and torpedos make it worse [is the same that happened in the blorg multiplayer stream].

An as the Op say, the more you advance, the more lag you start getting.

Is far from unplayable, but can be a let down late in the game :/
From what you describe, I really don't think how you can say it's "far from unplayable", unless you're speaking strictly literally, as "I can still sometimes somewhat issue a command so I can technically play".
I've noticed this problem as well when I grew large enough, I expected it to be honest, on 1k stars with max empires and everything. The issue with slowdowns in most of these kinds of games is either a large amount of orders (e.g the ye old attack move issue) or a large amount of events. Since we know Stellaris is not spamming events like CK2 is, the large amount of orders is probably what causes the slowdown, as the game processes everything. This isn't really surprising, if you click on any planet in a sector the AI will (usually) keep switching the pops around all the time.

I wonder how the slowdown would behave if we had everything under our core by changing the settings.
Wouldn't change anything. I modded this game to ignore sector, so I'm not using them (900 core worlds limit), and it's still the same crawl as everybody else.

Though maybe it's because the other AI still do that (I'm actually more killing them one by one to see if it'll improve the lag, than to really win the game...).

If someone has a late game save file and time, could he try to tag switch to every empire and disband all the fleet they have?

That will tell us is the problem are the ships

I'm getting pretty massive stuttering about 200 years in. Disbanding my fleets did nothing, and getting rid of my sectors ironically just gave me fps lag on top of stuttering. Everything works fine during the first 100-150 years.

Has Paradox commented on this at all since hotfix 1.0.1? Would hate to see this shit unchanged because they think it's fixed.

As far as getting rid of the sectors, I'm assuming the pop shuffling is a behaviour common across all the AI so I wouldn't necessarily expect it to help much if only 1 faction stopped doing it.

I'd like to add i have noticed my vassals randomly moving their fleets in their empires during peacetime, which is totally pointless and i have to wonder what processing the ai is doing if it can't decide where to station its fleets, i can imagine if all the ai's are doing this ALL the time then that will also contribute to the lag.

That is interesting that it is more about how many colonies you have rather then how many stars there are. Even though I have a i7-4770 I have kept my first 2 games with just 600 as I didn't want to run into a huge slow down later on.

That's the thing, I can't possibly imagine that the graphics and amount of stuff onscreen is stressing my graphics card and causing the game to lag, especially since it doesn't seem to matter where I'm looking. I have noticed that the game only uses one core and maxes it out, so I am thinking that the game is running into issues processing all the things that are happening in the world, hence why I think the AI being indecisive in all the various ways is contributing to the absurd lagfest. That being said, interestingly, the game actually appears to be lagging less right now than it was before which is strange.

I have found this to be a problem. The only way that I have solved it specifically when i want to speed up time is I go into a system view and zoom into and area of empty space. After I do that only then does the game time actually speed up. Don't even get me started on watching a fleet battle though :,D I can't even go into a system with my fleet in it, during a war, because of all the joining allied fleets I damn near freeze the game!

I'm around 2295 or so, and have like 163 planets of which 145 or so are in a single sector... - and the lag makes it almost unplayable. Maybe the Sector Governor can't figure out what to do with that monthly income :).
If it's that, I could probably micromanage my planets faster... - but I still have a 5 core planets maximum (- oh well actually my homeworld is the only planet I manage myself.)

Well I might try to dissolve that gigantic sector, fire my admiral and general and 7 scientists, hire 9 additional sector governors and split the planets up for testing purposes (- although I liked having almost all planets under that "10% additional research"-governor...). I think I'd be allowed to have 39 sectors iirc, but I only have 14 leader slots...

...

P.S. number of POPs is above 1100 if I remember correctly. And I haven't timed the lag, but it feels like more than 5 sec for every single action and at months end or during war probably double that...

Jesus! 95 years in and you have that many planets?! :( I'm 200 years in a mine and I barely broke 40?! How many AI do you play with???

Jesus! 95 years in and you have that many planets?! :( I'm 200 years in a mine and I barely broke 40?! How many AI do you play with???

17 AI (of which 3 had an advanced start) plus 3 Fallen empires - I think I didn't change a thing in the standard setting for a medium galaxy, aside changing the type to elliptical.

Going with wormhole space travel was the main thing that allowed me to leapfrog the enemy (and go around / postpone those early on alien infested systems). And probably some luck - I didn't experience setbacks through wars (- aside from these very first pirates; void-clouds and crystalls I could ignore until I had built a big enough navy, which was REALLY late.)

And then I guess it's all about influence and Frontier Outpost building. Tips for influence management: As a democracy you get elections every 5 years. After the election your new leader has a mandate (either to build 4 mining stations or 4 research stations), and then you get another 170 influence, which is enough for you to build a new outpost (- if you have a leader with the expansionist ("flag symbol") trait, that makes it 15% cheaper so you don't need 200). I also got massive amounts of influence each time I "uplifted" a pre-sentient species, which I did 3 times.
And then in the end I had like +11 influence per month regularly (- no alliance-upkeep (would be 2 per month; instead some nice technologies / buildings that give influence bonus etc.). Also immediatley after building an outpost, I gave the new system to a sector, so I didn't have to pay the influence upkeep.

Edit: And those 9 Betharian Powerplants (upgraded to level 3) and the galactic stock exchange at my 95% happy homeworld and being fanatic indiviualistic (+20% credits on top of all this) helped with the credits a lot. - I was getting like 90% of my credits from that one (home)world I controlled, and could leave the sector governor settings at 50%, at times 75% for the sector to auto-upgrade planets.

2nd Edit: and the fact that my race had the talent trait (+2 leader skill), and I upgraded my government to "democratic utopia" (+2 leader skill) meant that my governors and scients etc. started with pretty good values (4 stars) and traits, even if I needed new ones after occasional deaths.
