This exists in CK2 and its absence from EU4 really sucks. You can only get travel times with an army and only when you move that army, so what looks like a quick 7-day trip can take two weeks and get you trashed by enemies to intercepted you.

The AI can see distances but these are hidden from players...why?

Only from the province your army is in. You can't measure distance between any two provinces, nor can you measure distance to a province not adjacent to the one your army is in.

And this sucks and there's no reason for it to not be included.

Yeah, this would especially help with large and irregular provinces like the ones in the steppes. Might also help with colonial range, if the colonial range distance units are same as used with land movement by armies.

Yes you can. The travel arrow on top of the army window has a tooltip indicating ultimate arrival time. With this, you can compare the total travel time (and thus, distance) between your army's current province and any distant provinces you like.

In fact, CK2 is the game that lacks this function, not EU4—much to my annoyance.

You’re fighting a battle and want to manually withdraw to another province. There are a few options, but more enemy armies are approaching and you want to know if you can withdraw safely to a particular province before they arrive. Oops, too bad! You can’t see distances!

An enemy army is defeding a province but you’d like to see if you can get past them by entering a province and moving quickly to another. You make your move and...Oops, too bad! You got caught because you can’t see distances!
