What you think CO, maybe in a patch or DLC?

I like the solution of creating a Streetsign model where you can change the name and plop it.

Or even a new building field where if you can click on a building and enter a streetname and it appears on the side of the building like a streetsign.

An overlay like the districts, but just for streets sounds good enough to me. It'll just have to snap to the streets/roads.

that would be interesting as you could make a 'district'/street name and apply policies to just that, like no parking, or only high rise buildings etc). If you made it 'no-stopping' then it could be part of your strategic highway network, or even put in a bus, cycle or emergency lane.

I kinda like this idea. Makes it easier to make no parking, no heavy transport or even no cars, except emergency vehicles streets. and maybe some other rules i cant think of ATM.

I love the traffic management part of the game and can never be satisfied with enough options and configurations.

Should be definitly be part of a Traffic DLC/patch
So many ideas for traffic and street planing!

I agree. There's TONNES of stuff that can be added for traffic, and I'm hoping that CO adds more to it as the game ages.

I do not think it has to be so complicated.
You want to make something like districts, which are made for extracting statistic material. you do not need the street name to be some source of code which other parts of the programm are referring to.
Just a label and that is all.

Like user atsrchitect wrote:

2. Apply code that makes the application of this brush attach only to roadways.
3. Create naming feature similar to districts that stays centered over the center-line of the road. Edited to add: and stays parallel to road center-line.
4. Scale text based on the width of roadway (two lane roadway has smaller text than a six lane highway).
5. Make text transparent.
6. Allow user to toggle street names on and off and select color.

Thats seems to be a reasenable amount of work to invest into. the result would be totally satisfying (at least for me).
I think it could be complicated with having numbers for the real estate along that named road, which lead to adresses in the neighbouring households... but that is not the thing to do. just keep it simple and neat.

I would NOT use a brush to name streets. This would add so much more complication than is necessary to accomplish the task.

Think about it. A street has a beginning and an end. Two points. Why do you need a brush? What happens when part of that street gets demolished and then rebuilt? Using a two-point system of naming solves those problems. You lay down two points, and the game creates a route between them that then becomes "the street" you're naming.

Now you can destroy/rebuild street sections, and as long as you don't destroy the endpoints your street name remains intact.

The only complication you might need would be adding waypoints in case there are multiple possible routes and the game picks the wrong one.

Next problem: house numbering.
