Title pretty much explains it all.

I noticed in the YouTube recordings of the stream (I'm in Australia and can't watch the stream as its to late for me.) that some of the planets, when colonised, had bad locations to choose from for the Colony Hub.

I think I already know the answer, (that being no, due to colony micro management not being a focus ) but are we able to relocate it, after some tile blockers are removed and a better location for adjacencies bonuses become available?

If not, maybe the opportunity for a research project to allow this.

P.S. I no longer have finger nails in anticipation of the release of Stellaris.

What might be a happy mid ground would be the ability to place a colony hub on top of a tile blocker, if the technology to remove that blocker already existed whilst the planet was being colonised.

Not being able to makes you decide for either an immediate payoff or a long term location. Smart game design as you need interesting decisions, not ones you can keep changing to min/max. My opinion anyway.

So this got out of hand.

I think we need to step back and observe the fact that, this is a sci-fi game set it the distant future where FTL travel and aliens exist. I'm sure we can overlook the fact that in our present real time, moving a capital may be perceived as, and realisitcaly be very difficult, but in a sci-fi future setting, maybe not so.

It seems PG908 has answered my question anyhow.

Regardless of modernity capitals are only moved for really good reasons. Either because the economic distinctiveness of a region has grown to dwarf all else around it (something which isn't really applicable here because the adjacency bonuses it gets will counter the edge a different area gains to some extent - the reality is the 'potential' increase is not generally something visible to people and we as players can't communicate that to them), or they change to compromise a situation. Since all your colonies are founded once only from a single point that compromise situation doesn't exist/is un-modelled.

Sci-fi or not, if you're going to justify that the central government can analyse the world and demand it moves the capital it should come with a truly horrendous happiness penalty for the pops in the capital and its adjacent areas, as well as a generally annoying penalty for everyone else on the world not part of the new capital region, and just a small boost to those part of the new capital region (it doesn't do them a great deal of benefit really but it'll sure as heck annoy everyone else).

I'm not sure if I CAN re-make the point without resorting to historical analogy... maybe this time I'll just try to do it with examples that people don't get "u talkin shit bout my town m8" with:

No, you should not be able to move your capital. A capital city - at least a DE FACTO capital city - is the cultural, historical, and in a sense spiritual center of a nation. This is not something which CAN be changed on a whim by an edict from central government. You can't, for example, change the historical site where your colony ship first made planetfall, where your settlers first managed to distill moonshine from the native fruits, where the first new brood scuttled forth as shambling horrors from their egg-sacs and devoured their mother alive in the traditional manner. It's THOSE features that make a capital city, not what some bureaucrat in an office 200 light years away assigns on his Municipal Optimisation Directive.
