I want to suggest some historical starts which at the monent cannot really develop from the game for several reasons, as well as just some starts which I think would be alot of fun to play as. Besides,Historical starts for muslims are non-existent and they are quite lacking for the orthodox. \

The Civil War between King Stephen and Empress Mathilda known as the Anarchy:
This I think is a very well known and important era in English history but it cannot unfold from the game naturally because Mathilda does not have a strong claim to the throne, and neither will her son have it when she dies, while he would actually later inherit the throne as Henry II Plantagenet. (His father is also unjustly labeled a bastard, but I think thats to prevent him from inheriting the throne of Jerusalem.)

Persons: King Stephen, Empress Mathilda

The First Crusade:
For obvious reasons a very nice start, it would be cool to start with the crusade already declared but the crusaders about to leave, several houses can battle for the title, King of Jerusalem. Or will the muslims prevail after all?

Persons: Might be difficult because most of them were second sons and adventurers, but Godfrey of Boulogne, Tancred of Taranto, Raymond IV and Godfrey of Bouillon spring to mind.

The Reconquista:
At the end of the 12th or start of the 13th century with the rise and fall of the Almohad dynasty. Would be a nice challenge for the muslims to try and defeat the christian iberian alliance that historically thriumphed.

I will post some more suggestions later when i have time.

I dont really know any scenarios for the Orthodox rulers, but perhaps the defense of Kiev? Any suggestions are welcome.

Those are some good start dates. I would love to see those but, Paradox has entered the fantasy world with their Aztec Nonsense..They have shelved the history portion of the game it seems

Keep the doom and gloom prophecies to the Aztec threads.

As mentioned, every start date is playable, but I wouldn't mind seeing more prominent parts in history being highlighted with bookmarks and a little background.

If I recall all the original bookmarks were chosen because the were in the first Game. The two bookmarks added in the latest patch are focused on Byzantium since they were the focus of the latest DLC. I suspect if we get more bookmarks in the future they will centre around whatever the DLC happens to be about.

A post first crusade bookmark wouldn't be a bad idea, you have a brand new setting in europe and no dying fatimids. What's not to love about it.

they are playable yes, i will edit the op later with why i pick these dates, because as i explained for the Anarchy scenario, if you start at the start of king stephens reign the events cant unfold as in history because of game mechanics, but with a bookmark this can be fixed for example, the war can already be started.

that would be nice

I'm actually in the midst of adding and testing Svend II of Denmark's invasion of England as a proper invasion with standing armies and a bookmark, like the Norman/Norwegian ones in 1066. Historically he invaded in 1069 with a large army led by himself and his brother, and the northern Saxon earls revolted and joined them against William. According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle William only won because he managed to assemble a large army consisting of English, Norman, French and Breton troops -- it was considered politically advantageous to have William as king rather than a Dane.

There were another couple of Danish raids in 1074/1075 during which York was looted, but no large armies were involved and there were no attempts to fight a pitched battle.

I can post it here for testing once I'm done balancing it, if anyone's interested.

If you want to discuss this topic on the main forum, not on the mod sub forum, I would suggest to remove the attachment. The moderators will move this thread without any caution.

I suspect the Aztecs mean that forum moderators have bigger issues at the moment.

Back on topic:

To me bookmarks are something paradox would do if they had time. Everything they need is already there waiting to be used. All they need is a bit of free time for some researchers to find dates and army sizes and placements and if you want the scenario to be really special maybe a little time from some event scripters. Then of course you need testers to go through and balance it.

Keep the doom and gloom prophecies to the Aztec threads.
Why? Isn't most of the Aztec anger about other priorities (like bookmarks) that have been overlooked to look at on something dumb? Even if its just a small amount of time they could easily have done a couple of bookmarks in the same timeframe (particually if they picked ones they already knew about).
