I use 2 55" monitors what's so small about that?
Not sure what monitor size and controller support have to do with each other, maybe I am missing something?
I also do not think controller support would work well with all our games, some have had controller support like The Shadow Effect ...
He's probably talking about using his controller for playing controller-supported game through his TV, while he has to play mouse+keyboard games on his PC monitor.

If you're absolutely desperate to play EUIV with a controller (?!) then you could grab Xpadder (Google it). I tried adding controller support with Civ V, though, and it was clearly inferior to a mouse/kb for that kind of game. I'd strongly expect that a game like PDS grand strategy titles wouldn't work very well with a controller.
As per Castellon's response, controller support and screen size are two issues. I play my PDS titles on a 32" screen more than two metres away from my eyes, in a recliner (with the mouse resting on the armwrest, and keyboard in lap - it's very comfortable and relaxing

I do find I need to keep the resolution at 1368 x 768 or I struggle to read the UI, but this is another issue altogether (I would be a huge fan of Clausewitz being adapted so that the text size increases with resolution, so I could see the map in all it's 1080p (max res of my screen) shiny glory, and still read the text ).If you do give Xpadder a whirl, post here how it goes - if it does work well, I'd be interested. I just think it's pretty low odds, hence why I haven't tried myself.
On a side note, PDS have said they'll have gamepad support for Runemaster (which is the type of game that would work much, much better with a pad)

Most of our strategy games - all the PDS ones and Warlock 1-2 work GREAT with a Steam controller. So you've got that to look forward to in 2015.
