Have a preview of the British name list I'm currently working on.

I still need to get the destroyer, corvette, and additional battleship names ported from my list, possibly strip out name duplicates between different ship classes, and maybe come up with some good generic names for the special army types. Furthermore I incorporated some of the assumptions we managed to come up with in this thread, so depending on how those things are actually implemented and work they're subject to change, too.

But I think I'm going to have this thing up and going shortly after the game released and I had a chance to give it a quick test run.

If that is true, gender is probably not hardcoded mechanic... so you get default subsection for most races, but humans gets separate male and female subsections. Same for portraits, most are under default, but humans have male and female, but nothing in engine would have prevented you from dozen different genders/variants.
If I am correct, you could code dozen of subsections, like russian_male, russian_female, chinese_male, chinese_female, and so on, assign each separate portraits, so you wont get really odd racial/cultural combinations, like black guy with first name in Korean, and second name in Ashkenazi. (which is bond to happen with single human namelist)

That'd be awesome, yes.

Also, for instance, different names and portraits for different "castes" (for instance to emulate social insects... workers, warriors, queens... that kind of thing), although we'd need some kind of way to connect subsections to actual game classes (as in leaders, scientists, warriors, general pops) to prevent, for instance, a scientist getting a warrior portrait, or a random pop getting a queen portrait...

So I noticed you managed to work around the gender issue. Is this just an educated guess or will it work?

Note that character names are under a subsection default... gendered names could possibly be under their own subsections..?
If it works differently I'll have to adapt it correspondingly, but that probably won't be too much of an issue.

So what is the story behind this? The UK just conquered the whole world during the great Tea Wars of 2132?

But yeah, I wanted to resort to a lot of the more "nation neutral" names from RN ships as well.

I might actually make a thread for more "international" names list. I want as diverse names as possible for my characters, ships and so on.

Have a preview of the British name list I'm currently working on.

I still need to get the destroyer, corvette, and additional battleship names ported from my list, possibly strip out name duplicates between different ship classes, and maybe come up with some good generic names for the special army types. Furthermore I incorporated some of the assumptions we managed to come up with in this thread, so depending on how those things are actually implemented and work they're subject to change, too.

But I think I'm going to have this thing up and going shortly after the game released and I had a chance to give it a quick test run.

Questions:

1) What happens when you run out of names?
2) Does it mix in generic names with specific names, or does it only turn to the generic names when you run out of specific names, i.e when battleship names are used up does it use generic names then or does it mix in generic names?
3) The names in this list aren't alphabetical. Is just because the names aren't drawn at random, but in the order they appear in the .txt file?
