I like the tone of the trailer, it gets me all exciting for the game.
Most of us like the tone of the trailer, I don't see anything wrong here.

For some reason, the snake ad always reminds me of the opening title of I, Claudius. Which feels kinda fitting. I'm fine with it.
Funny thing is, stuff that happens in I, Claudius surpasses even CK2 and Imperator's level of craziness, especially when Empress Livia is involved.

This makes me wonder, are there any historical cases from assassinations by manure explosion from the days of yore?
You get it all wrong. This is Satan in the snake's aspect just talking the kid into becoming one of those annoying kin-slaying hellspawns - or demanding more diaper changes and breast-feeding during nighttimes making his parents stressed and depressive.

Well sure it's a bit "dark", but more importantly it does carry the Herakles symbolism.
It roughly means "you may die in your infancy, but you can also endure all the difficulties and become a hero, founder of a dynasty!", while also being reminiscent on one of the iconic (but not also "realistic") assassinations in CK2.
Snakes and snake bites carry a very, very heavy symbolism. Snakes are the devil/Satan in the middle ages, they are also a death of choice for various famous people (like Cleopatra), they are also an execution method that was common in many parts of the world. The trailer shows the struggle against evil, it's also easily interpreted as an assassination attempt against a member of an important dynasty - and maybe an attempt at destroying a dynasty. But it's also a manifestation of the test of time.
The trailer also carry the new "velvet-y", elegant graphic design and atmosphere of CK3 compared to CK2. The trailers for CK2 were fun and goofy, already full of meme potential. CK3 seems modernized, more "serious" in a way. The world of CK3 is unforgiving, and not as light-hearted. I think it's an important message too.
What the ad wasn't showing was the baby strangling the snake and thus foiling the assassin's plans.
The baby's name? Hercules.
I can clearly remember a mission of the Satanist cult where you kill the family of a farmer, children and wife, then your character proceed to remove the face from the wife and kiss the desperate husband. At the end everyone gets impaled and the farm is set on fire (Why? For the glory of satan of course.jpg).

Well, not directly recorded ones, George Maniakes did something similar to a rival, but otherwise I couldn't find a recorded case of murder with manure going boom. Altough there might have been deaths that just weren't recorded
Throwing a baby into a moat or have it fly from the Moon Door of Eyrie would be more terrible and cruel than you have thought. But I feel disgusted by myself for that I have these awful thoughts.
