Hi folks,
I know, some will hate me for that, but what the subject line states is true for me when playing EU.
Just to get one thing straight. This is my first impression of the game.
I bought it yesterday and played the Tutorial (or better started it twice)
So here we go.
1. Getting started
Well, there is no readme-file even
one which says the usual stuff like
*congratulation*, e-mail adress for
support and such stuff. So my first
impression was *hey, I get a game
without any changes since printing the
manual and going gold. This must be a
good one*
2. Manual
I don´t need a coloured manual, but the
pictures are rather useless thumbnails.
There is no index at the end ! I don´t
want to read a half a chapter to find
what want to know.
Who ever has seen the EU board game and
played it is a tables-maniac. I have
found one in the manual so far....
of course I found the cvs-files in the db-
archive. But they are neither described
nor self-explanatory.
3. Graphics
Ah, well I play a lot of strategy games,
so I´am used to 5 year old graphics in a
new game. What do I need DirectX 7. for ?
4. Text
I have detected several errors in
translation. Okay, this is the first time
I bought a computer game before it is
released in english. But why do I have
to pay for someone (translator) who is
not even possible to spell the word * to
build* in a game where many,
many things are being built. And it is
really annoying to get a message about
the outcome of your *seabattle*, when
your ARMY-leader has just won a battle.
AARRRGHHH ! And who is responsible for
choosing this typo ?
5. Sound
I have never faced sound problems with
other games. With EU I do. Despite
the default-setting they are much too
loud. If I start the wav out of their
directory, they are o.k., but within the
game they sound scratchy and high pitched
I had to turn sound off.
6. Tutorial
Forget it. No learning curve, no good
explanations. Graphic-flaws all over
(green triangles which pop up to show you
buttons, stay on the screen !). The best
thing about the Tutorial is, that you
can´t save games. Who ever did that, I
would like to ask where the purpose lies
with that ? I am the one who want´s to
decide when to leave a game !
Well some of you will wonder why I didn´t talk about gameplay yet. That´s because I haven´t seen enough to come to a conclusion (and the mail would even be longer than this). So far I like gameplay, even the pseudo real-time-strategy (normally, I don´t like RTS-games), but I can´t say anything about the AI yet.
If you would ask me, if I would buy this game again, the answer is definetly YES, because I want to have in my collection. Would I recommend it a friend ? NO, not until I have seen more of it. And there have to be PATCHES ! Or even better. Let´s try a DEMO.....
Greetings
