I'm fine with actual canonization/veneration being random, but I really wish if a character meets the requirements for one of the special bloodlines (tbh I'm specifically talking about the tribal bloodlines that give light foot troop bonuses) that the game chooses that bloodline 100% of the time over the generic bloodline. It really irks me that it isn't 100% given the rarity of your character being venerated in the first place.

edit: 9/4/2019 I'm not bumping this but if anyone's interested I made a mod to make the specific bloodline more likely than the generic one. It's OP when taking some of my other mods (specifically Easier Sainthood/Veneration) but you can play around with it and see for yourself. I haven't gotten around to testing changes with my mod(s) yet.

Part of the idea is that hagiographies are extremely unreliable even as legends go- the idea of what a saint is about or did often bears little relationship to outside accounts of their life, and the bloodlines are intended to heavily focus on how the character is remembered/imagined as part of their saintly legend.

Personally, I find it much more irritating when I had a perfectly-saintly character who doesn't even get beatified. (If I were designing it, I'd make beatification a lot more likely for people with high "virtue score", fast-track canonization less common, and make it possible for people who don't get the fast-track to get considered later - realistically, a lot got recognized later because someone politically influential championed them. In general, I wish bloodlines - not just saintly ones - tended to be more common and had fewer rules prohibiting multiple created ones, but had individually smaller bonuses. But that's just my personal preference.)

well ..... apparently , like math , CK 2 bloodlines are a simple , straight-forward matter ---- BUT NOT FOR ME. :(

Reading about CK 2 bloodlines gives me a headache , and then I DON'T understand it.

With that said , I like to play with the Celts , with Tanistry succession , and with a succession of Queens , instead of Kings.

And so , IN MY EXPERIENCE --- SO FAR ( 200 years roughly , in four different games ) --- bloodlines seem to be " guaranteed" most simply and directly through matriinneal marriage .

A succession of Queens , per force , means a succession of matrilineal marriages.

what's all this business about patrilineal transfer ??

i don't know.

I just know that I consistently get the bloodline in my matrileneal marriages.

Apparently ( ??? ) according to the Wiki , if one of my Queens gets canonized , it will still be patrilineal transfer . Saintly bloodlines are always patrilineal transfer regardless of the sex of the person canonized . ( ??? )

And , like I said , I consistently get the patrilineal transfer bloodline in my matrileneal marriages.

SO FAR --- I HAVE NEVER SEEN a matrilineal transfer bloodline anyway. :p

All bloodlines are either patrilineal or matrilineal. If a couple are in a "normal"/patrilineal marriage, their kids get the patrilineal bloodlines of the father and the matrilineal bloodlines of the mother. The vast majority are patrilineal, except a lot of event-created ones (warrior lodge, grand crusader, Outremer) if created by a female character. Basically all bloodlines also have "matrilineal transfer", which means if the couple are in a matrilineal marriage, their kids get all of both parents' bloodlines, regardless which kind they are.

The net effect of this is that matrilineal marriages become the key to merging bloodlines, which encourages a succession of queens/empresses, except that means event bloodlines are matrilineal, which are a lot harder to keep together with the vastly more common patrilineal ones consistently in later generations unless you matri-marry every single time (whether that's practical depends on religion/culture/gamerules/how things play out).

You guys are talking about passing on bloodlines, but if I understand it correctly, the OP is about getting a bloodline in the first place.

A specific "saintly" bloodline instead of the generic one, yes. I find it annoying that one has to have two successful rolls. I don't really think they are all that powerful (well unless you stack like 20 of them or something) to justify that much RNG.

Yeah, got sidetracked and replied. Called for response too directly to resist.

Yeah, it pretty much is just the "stack every single one out there" scenario that's the issue, and which (IMO) they went a little overboard trying to prevent. If you're not actively seeking them, or are in a no-matrilineal-marriage situation (Agnatic Clans or Islam, basically), they aren't especially powerful.
