This tech tree is more close to reality than any game of hoi series (except hoi1 maybe). If you want to get better tanks and new weapons, you firstly need to get stronger industry and new materials. Firstly you have to research chemical industry, then energy I, rare I, metal I & oil I, refined fuel + synthetic materials. After that you should be able to produce improved inf, better tanks and artillery. Althought I dont recommend to research those techs in the begining of the game, those techs gives you significant negative bonus to your research.

bluesteel just use 4 tech slots on researching you're industry. keep it like that for one year, by then you would have a good indistrial capacity and have unlocked techs in armour/infantry...

unlock the tech team slot so you can have 10 first start building industry for that gets more tech slots second focus on industry and Army tech then infantry then aircraft then armour i am able to get a pz mk 4 around historical time of 1936 its important not to build any units for the first 3 years and just build industry and if you want radar and aa

hey, you should also open up the "Tech guide". It's located under "utilities" when you go from the start button, then iron cross, then u see the utilities tab, slide over that and u will see 4 utilities. The Iron Cross configuration is where u go to click on the patches button, then u will see how to get the 10 tech slots. oh yeah, if u do not understand Spanish very well, then when you open up the configuration tab, u have to at the botton there, click it to make it show english. On that you cna also set all techs to start in 1933. That helps too cause that way you do not have any negative researching cause ur researching something before you should.

When you open up the tech guide, immediately change the language to english then tell it to "load" then you will see all teh techs for every tech page. just click on a tech and make it green. it will show u some prerequsites (if there are any) in red. You can also click on the "view" button to see what techs you have to research as prerequisites that are listed on other tech pages.

here is an example: to get advanced infantry you need Improved infantry and Basic Machine Gun (this needs Improved SMG and Army Planning) army planing is on the Industrial page and it needs a bunch of other industrial things researched first.

if you want "medium prototypes" you will need to research the following, in this order:
Special materials (needs chemical industry and average industry) chemical industry needs basis industry) and 20mm under light prototypes and to get the 20mm u have to research 12.7mm first.

to get any kind of "Improved airplane" you need to get Production planning, which needs a bunch of stuff like, Ind. Training Inst. which needs tabulating machines, calculators, basic electronics, vacumm tubes. also u need "forced recruitment, military service and census and Public finance. Most of the things you need to research for production planning will reduce your research % so to offset that u want to research as much doctrine as you can and do an many naval ones to boost up your research % or your research will be so slow it wont be funny.

The tech trees in this game are quite intense, but once you get to know them it's not as daunting as it seems to you at first !

Hope this helped you out a bit.

"refined fuel" which needs selective ind. proc., chem industry, boost mining, then u need energy1, rare1, metal1 and oil1 is for naval techs and basic motorized which they will help alot in the begining of the war.

VERY, VERY few tech choices (example in industry the only choice is Public Finance; Art & Armor only choices are Rocker Art & Lgt AA; Aircraft are Rockets; Basic strat. & hydrplanes). First off, if you only have that many troops by 1939 then something is seriously wrong on your end. Even without building a single unit you will get units FREE, Austria Annex gives like 20 units or so. By 1939 if you have less then 35 units something is totally wrong.

Now with researching just like Kelben said seems to sum it up. I have ran 5 games from 1933 to 1939 as Germany to test different paths of getting my techs faster or what I can focus on more then the other, ie Armor techs over Air techs, Infantry over Navy and doctrines. It has been very interesting choices to make, but I find that balancing the Industrial with Aircraft (blueprints) work well and make sure to keep researching the Electronics like Calculators, Tabulating machine, etc. Keep you research around 110% for a few years till you can get to Average Industry, with key being Refined Fuel to open up the majority of the improved areas of Inf, Arm & Air.

But its totally a your choice and yes the technoflechas (tech guide) is extremely helpful as others have stated here.

And this is from Julle64:
Milestone techs (techs to focus on from the start):
• Special Materials:
-> Improved SMG -> Improved Infantry
-> 20mm light tank
-> Greater Absorption -> Special Alloys -> Basic Vehicles (improved AC brigade)
-> 47 / 88 mm cannons -> 75mm light arty
-> Average Interceptor
-> Average Fighter
-> Average Bomber
-> Average CAS
-> Medium Range Subs

• Refined Fuel:
-> Basic Motorized
-> naval techs

• Advanced Parts:
Further advancements in air, tank & arty and naval techs

• 20mm Armor:
For Blitzkrieg land doctrine tree

• Training Institutes:
Req. for Production Planning and Heavy Industry

The trick is to keep the research speed as high as possible. So keep an eye on that speed value and don't let it fall too much.

This is very true to get the next set of research plans to open up. Hope this helps you.

Uh??? You are saying that you cant see techs like "refined fuel"??? Its in industry section under Chemical Industry....

If you want to get basic weapons for early stages of war you have to research :

1. Selective Ind. Proc.
2. Chemical Industry
3. Boost Mining
4. Enery I, Metal I, Rare I, Oil I
5. Refined Fuel
6. Light Industry
7. Average Industry
8. Special Materials

Then you should have access to basic medium tank, improved infantry, basic motorized infantry, 75mm guns etc...
As was stated above...the most important is to keep your research as fast as possible. For example I start with Peactime Industry (even for Germany) tech which gives you 15% research bonus. Then I research some doctrines, armor improvement + you can research powerful Mountain infantry II (just need basic infantry + specialization tech)..generally till the middle/end of 1935 I just ignore the whole Industry tech section except for Peactime industry and Electronic stuff like tabulators etc..

"to get any kind of "Improved airplane" you need to get Production planning"

Hmm Im not sure at the moment, but I think that this does not apply to Interceptors...you can get their improved version (FW-150?) even without production planning.

Excellent information - many thanks. Will print it out/study and apply. To Tigeriii - have many troops etc nothing just very modern. Again, many thanks to everyone.

Ok but even if you have Inf III thats enough to roll through Poland. Inf IV is better of course and you can research it prior to 1939 rolling around. Just have to manage the research selection very carefully. And I assume you have your upgrade slider turned on as well so that your older units get upgraded. Yet another area to manage carefully with production and building brigades, Industry, Infrastructure, etc, prior to war with Poland.

Just in case you would like some pointers:

1. Build Infrastructure in all high resource areas especially in all urban areas at minimum 5 levels (+25 infra) to start with. As Germany I hit all my high energy provinces, Essen and Liepzig a must 150% infra if you can manage it.
2. Build a few Industries take one year to build, I mainly do Berlin, Oppeln and Stuttgart.
3. Build brigades for ships and infantry once I have researched the techs for them. (Can start building in 1938 at latest)
4. Build AA and Radar in key provinces on border of France, Belgium & Netherlands. (I do this in case I dont have my fighters up to snuff in type and quantity) Aim for at least 1 radar station in all urban cities and every high resource province along the border.
5. Research should be around 110% or higher prior to war with Poland. (my highest was 129% lowest 107%) This is all dependent on what you like to build for you military though so its not so cut in stone like all previous HoI2 tech trees.

I love the tech tree in IC so much I would love to see it get a few modifications to it as well and a little more historical with choices of units being built and the necessary techs related to building them more aligned to historical standards. Other then that IC for me so far is much more interesting to me with the techs you choose because it can turn the tide for or against you depending on your choices or lack there of.

Much more realistic this way, plus can also make for interesting ways to win battles you fight. Well I think I have wind bagged this enough. Good luck. :p

Again thanks; started new game and doing MUCH better thanks to you guys and learning/understanding the tech tree. How high can you go ref infrastructure? Ref research: you mention having it around 110%. How do you do that? In lower right of production screen have research maxed and it shows 100%? And finally any way to change the resolution?

Maximum infra in province should be 200.
When you click on random tech (however a few techs doesnt give anything to your research) there is research modifier. For example Average industry will slow down your research by 5%...on the other hand Basic electronic boost you research by 2%...In technology screen there is overview column..click on it and in
Intel & Research section there it is.
