Is the only way to ensure a Westphalian Peace to become leader of the Protestants yourself then choose a white peace with the emperor?
Yes. But you can only become leader of the Protestants as a Protestant. That said, from my experience the Thirty Years' War sees a lot of large armies rampaging across the HRE (especially the smaller states). If you are a major nation with a powerbase outside of the HRE, you only need to support the weaker side and try to keep a status quo where no side is making particularly large gains for 10+ years before everyone starts getting fed up with loans, inflation, unrest and war exhaustion through the roof and a lack of monarch points caused by trying to keep all of that under control and manpower. Then you're most likely going to see a Westphalian Peace.

EDIT: I will however point out that that is my experience starting from the Thiry Years' War bookmark, rather than 1444. So maybe Paradox just did a really good job ensuring that the bookmark works perfectly and the system doesn't function as well starting in 1444.

No, it will happen if the war is inconclusive. Inconclusive can even be winning with 40% warscore, because the war goal is superiority, so neither side having won enough battles is apparently inconclusive, at least from my experience. But, of course, not a 100% guarantee, it depends on the power balance and randomness.

so...how exactly do I get myself HRE Emperor as Ottoman now?
Step one: Become Christian. (This is... honestly the annoying part, because it's a lot more effort to reliably get the Orthodox Zealots you need than it used to be.)
Step two: Wait until one of the electors becomes Protestant. In the meantime, you might seek opportunities to vassalize electors (almost certainly by force).
Step three: Do whatever it takes to make the League War end inconclusively, opening the Imperial succession to all European Christian monarchies.

With that much faff involved, it's probably easier to try to turn the Ottoman Empire Catholic.

heh, so the westphalian peace will only happen if its inconclusive thrirty years war huh... Interesting. So an orthodox ottoman run needs to support the weakest side and keep warscore around 0% for it to happen? Good you said that, i thought westphalian peace is when protestant win :)

(ok i should really have looked it up, i know)

So i should be vassalising electors as orthodox yaroslavl? Already got one, chance for second now, and can force throne of bohemia. Guess i'll do that then.

It will be nice to see the great russian bear on the emperor throne. Go Yaroslavl!

how would you try to do that? What is easiest way?

Also, does the tirthy year war Always fire at 1620 more or less? Feels waste to take electors for 100 years if i can't switch to catholic easily. I'm at 1530 or so now.

It'd be easier to turn Catholic from Orthodox than from Sunni anyway, as you could just accept heretic demands.

No, in 1.8, even switching to heretic religions requires the other religion to be the dominant one, otherwise you get a LA, prestige, and TttF hit in exchange for heretic tolerance. You can switch to Orthodox day 1 as Ottomans thanks to the new rebel system.

So I can´t be emperor as Orthodox anymore? I don´t have even slightest idea how to turn Ottos Christian...and, to be more precious, how to do it fast, because I can´t waste 200 years messing up with this as that would hardly give me enuf time for World Conquest. So it pretty much seems like it would be better playing with France as they start Christian.

i was theorycrafting. If you dow An itlaian state from Albania based claim, you can grab Naples and convert 'm for Catholic rebel spawn. Since rebels can cross sea now, they will march to ottoman land to convert you to catholic.. Right?

If they then reach your capital, you can collapse to them and become catholic, right?

Just theorycrafting here. It would be fun to join the counter reformation as ottomans and convert the actual turkish land :)

Although i would probably do it as Albania.. Ottomans meh.

edit: woops, forgot Albania starts as catholic with ortthodox inhabitants.
